Unverified concern: The full run requests exactly 100 new accounts, equal to the Firebase hourly per-IP limit stated in this workflow. It leaves no quota headroom for a preceding smoke run or another signup from the runner's IP.
Validation was inconclusive.
Potential consequence: Some full-run signups are rejected by quota, so the scheduled or manual load test cannot reach its requested size.
Condition requiring verification: The full run starts within an hour of a smoke or retried load run sharing its outbound IP.

🟡 Minor · Correct the load-testing guide: the teardown does not delete a… · load-testing.md:815-819
Correct the load-testing guide: the teardown does not delete a Firebase login that has no app user.
The guide says a login saved after profile creation fails is removed by cleanup. That is not true. TEARDOWN | Delete app user calls /me/delete. That handler looks up the app user first and rejects the request when none exists, so it never reaches the Firebase delete. The login stays in Firebase Auth.
The backend's daily unfinished-signup sweep removes these logins later. The guide does not mention the sweep or any other Firebase-only recovery step. The "Cleanup only" path also calls /me/delete, so it fails for these logins too.
Change the sentence so it states the actual behavior:
📝 Suggested correction
- is **saved anyway**, and cleanup deletes it.+ is **saved anyway**. The teardown cannot delete it, because `/me/delete` rejects a login with no app user. The backend's daily unfinished-signup sweep deletes it later.
The same false assurance appears in the save-account script at tests/load/compass-testPlan.jmx:198, which logs "saving anyway so it gets cleaned up". Update that message to match.

🟡 Minor · Exclude failed-profile accounts from /me measurement. · compass-testPlan.jmx:196-207
Exclude failed-profile accounts from /me measurement.
A failed profile request leaves no application user, so /me returns 404 for that account throughout its thread. These failures distort the /me measurement even though the setup error-rate check also fails. Keep failed accounts for teardown, but provide only successfully profiled accounts to the /me reader and reset that reader file with the other test data.

🟡 Minor · Make teardown failures fail the results check. · load-test.yml:104-108
The full workflow allows a 1% error rate. One failed teardown among 100 accounts can therefore pass check_results.py, while the current cleanup gate skips because JMeter succeeded. The proposed workflow-only condition does not cover this case.
Treat any TEARDOWN | error as a failed check, then run cleanup when that check fails.

Correct the isolated setup synchronization claim.
yarn test:db:reset seeds database users before dev:isolated starts Firebase. If Firebase is unavailable, the seed creates database-only users. The README therefore cannot promise that resetting the database keeps Firebase and the database in sync.
This does not prevent the documented user from signing up and browsing synthetic profiles, but it makes seeded users unsuitable for flows that require sign-in. Update the README to state this limitation, or change the launcher and setup lifecycle so Firebase is running before seeding. Do not add a second yarn emulate command without coordinating process ownership, because dev:isolated already starts Firebase and could cause port conflicts.

Validate the expected number of participating accounts or threads.
When fewer accounts exist than USERS, JMeter can stop excess threads at CSV EOF. The checker only requires one TEST | sample, so a run with fewer participating threads can still pass.
Do not compare total TEST | samples with USERS unless the test plan guarantees one sample per account. Validate distinct participating account or thread identifiers instead.

docs/load-testing.md:185-187 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚖️ Poor tradeoff
Stop a second local run from deleting the first run's accounts.
Two runs started from tests/load/ both use created_accounts.txt. If the second run starts while the first run is active, its leftover check (tests/load/compass-testPlan.jmx:28-43) fails the run and zeroes its thread counts. Teardown group "3 - Delete accounts" (tests/load/compass-testPlan.jmx:644-660) still runs. It reads every listed row and deletes those accounts, so the first run loses them.
Keying the file by runId does not fix this. The leftover check would then miss accounts from killed runs.
Use an exclusive lock that the operating system releases when the process ends:
Acquire the lock before the leftover check in group 0 reads the file. Hold it until the run ends. Test ownership by holding a lock on an open file handle. Do not treat the existence of a lock file as proof that a run is active.
If the lock is not available, stop this run before any group that reads or writes created_accounts.txt. Gate teardown and the other readers of the file on the lock result, so this run never reaches cleanup.
Leave the leftover check and teardown unchanged for the run that holds the lock.
A crashed run releases its lock. The next run then sees its listed accounts through the leftover check and recovers them.
This lock covers runs on the same machine. Runs on separate machines do not share the file.

Correct the runId collision claim in the load-test docs.
The default runId is ddHHmmss, which has only second resolution and no month. Two local runs that start in the same second create the same account emails and usernames. CI passes the last five digits of GITHUB_RUN_ID plus the attempt number, so CI runs can also share a runId. The doc sentence that says a fresh ID prevents EMAIL_EXISTS is therefore false.

so creating accounts sends no welcome emails (once the API with that check is deployed).

ddHHmmss repeats every month. If an earlier run left an account and its created_accounts.txt row was lost, a run starting at the same day, hour, minute and second reuses that email. Signup then fails with EMAIL_EXISTS. Add year and month to the default. Usernames stay within 25 characters.

Update the default value for the runId Argument in the JMeter test plan to
include year and month as well as day and time, so IDs do not repeat across
months. Keep the resulting run ID short enough that generated usernames remain
within 25 characters.

Record each new account before its profile request.
The append at compass-testPlan.jmx:228-230 runs only after the profile POST at lines 168-185. If JMeter stops after Firebase signup but before that append, the account is missing from created_accounts.txt. Teardown, the leftover check, and the workflow cleanup do not see it. If the profile was created, backend/api/src/sweep-unfinished-signups.ts skips it because a users row exists. The account then stays in Firebase and the database. Write the row right after the signup response, and record the profile result in a later step.
Suggested direction
Move the file.append so it runs after the signup extractor sets authToken, and before the create-user-and-profile sampler. Set profileCreated in a second step, after the profile sampler has run.

Move the `file.append` that records the new account to run after the signup
response provides `authToken` and before the `create-user-and-profile` sampler.
Record the initial account data there, then update `profileCreated` in a later

The $.id extractor falls back to NOT_FOUND without failing the sample. A /me response with the expected name and HTTP 200 but no id therefore passes. The If /me returned the account guard then skips all browsing samples, and the checker can still report PASS.
Add a JSONPathAssertion on $.id to the /me sampler. A missing id then fails that sample, and the checker's error-rate limit applies to it.

Stop deleting the Firebase login when app deletion fails for an account with a profile.
The Firebase teardown runs when /me/delete fails, even when profileCreated is "true". /me/delete deletes the users row at backend/api/src/delete-me.ts:66 before it deletes the Firebase account. If that statement fails, the row stays. The Firebase login is the only credential that can retry /me/delete. Deleting it orphans the row.
Recording the Firebase delete only when profileCreated is "false" does not prevent this. The email stays in created_accounts.txt for the current run. On the next run, sign-in returns INVALID_LOGIN_CREDENTIALS. The "Signed in, or already deleted" assertion then counts the account as deleted, and the final group removes it from the file.
Run the Firebase teardown only when no profile exists:
🐛 Suggested fix
- <IfController guiclass="IfControllerPanel" testclass="IfController" testname="If there is no profile, or /me/delete failed" enabled="true">- <stringProp name="IfController.condition">${__groovy(vars.get("signedIn") == "true" && (vars.get("profileCreated") == "false" || !ctx.getPreviousResult().isSuccessful()))}</stringProp>+ <IfController guiclass="IfControllerPanel" testclass="IfController" testname="If there is no profile" enabled="true">+ <stringProp name="IfController.condition">${__groovy(vars.get("signedIn") == "true" && vars.get("profileCreated") == "false")}</stringProp>
With this change, the post-processor check is not needed. The Firebase step then runs only when profileCreated is "false", so its success always records an account with no app data. A login whose users row was already removed stays in Firebase. This happens when /me/delete fails after line 66, for example if deleteUserFiles throws. Later runs keep that account in created_accounts.txt and fail its /me/delete check. Such accounts need manual cleanup.

Update the teardown IfController condition in the JMeter test plan so Firebase
account deletion runs only when signedIn is "true" and profileCreated is
"false"; remove the condition that also runs teardown when the preceding
/me/delete request fails. Rename the controller to reflect the no-profile
condition and remove any post-processor check made unnecessary by this narrower
condition.
