Broad, comparative situation research across protracted refugee/displacement crises — building the evidence base to find high-leverage intervention opportunities before narrowing down to any one of them.
Work on dzaleka-cost-model produced a broad-to-narrow situation analysis
for Dzaleka Refugee Camp, Malawi (docs/cases/dzaleka.md here) — a
sector-level Theory of Change evidence base covering legal/policy, funding,
disaster risk, and protection pathways, sourced and dated throughout.
Fraternity generalizes that method and applies it across multiple crises/camps. The goal right now is breadth, not depth: gather comparable situation data across several sites so that patterns, structural levers, and funding/protection gaps can be compared side by side. Once a comparison across cases surfaces a genuine opportunity — a lever that is high-leverage, tractable, and neglected relative to the others — we narrow down and go deep on that one.
Current work (from 19 Oct 2026): NameBridge. Cross-border name
intelligence for missing-person search; see docs/CONCEPT-IDEA.md and the
weekly plan in docs/TIMETABLE.md. The situation research and
docs/SOLUTIONS.md are kept for reference only.
CONCEPT.md— the reusable research methodology (the four-pathway framework, sourcing discipline, output shape).docs/cases/— one file per crisis/camp, each following the same structure so they stay comparable.docs/RESEARCH_LOG.md— running log of research sessions (sources, decisions, dead ends, next steps).docs/comparison.md(once ≥3 cases exist) — cross-case comparison and candidate opportunity list.docs/SOLUTIONS.md— candidate open-source tools per cluster, and the recommended first line of technology development.docs/CONCEPT-IDEA.md— "NameBridge" concept and option analysis: cross-border name intelligence for missing-person search (relates to 2F).docs/TIMETABLE.md— NameBridge weekly scope of work to the end of the fall semester (Dec 2026).docs/SCOPE.md— NameBridge phase 0 scope: pilot corridor, users, purposes and prohibited uses.docs/THREAT_MODEL.md,docs/DPIA.md,docs/DATA_RULES.md,docs/BENCHMARK_PROTOCOL.md— NameBridge phase 0: misuse threats, data-protection pre-assessment, data rules, and the evaluation protocol.docs/IRB_DETERMINATION.md— analysis for gate G3 (is the use of public name lists human subjects research?), with options and a draft HRPP email.docs/NAME_CHANGE.md— cross-cutting rules for deliberate name change in exile (applies to the graph, matching, benchmark, intake and integrations).namebridge/— NameBridge code (Apache-2.0) and public name data (CC BY 4.0).
Every figure keeps its original source, date, and reporting period. Numbers that diverge across sources are not silently reconciled — the divergence itself is often informative (reporting-period lag, methodology differences, contested figures). Always check the date attached to a figure before using it comparatively.
