Yes. Currently, when word suggestions are unavailable (such as in password fields, terminal windows, non-predictive input fields, or before typing begins), the keyboard leaves an empty, blank suggestion strip. This wastes valuable vertical screen space and creates an unnecessary blank row in the interface.
Describe the solution you'd like
Swap the positions of the toolbar and the suggestion strip:
Place the suggestion strip at the very top of the keyboard.Place the toolbar directly below the suggestion strip, sitting immediately above the top letter row (q-w-e-r-t-y...). With this inverted layout, when no suggestions are available, the suggestion strip at the very top can cleanly collapse/hide without moving or shifting the toolbar relative to the letter keys.
Use case
When typing in environments where word prediction is not active or needed (like terminal apps, code editors, search bars, or password inputs), the keyboard automatically shrinks by one row. This reclaims screen space to view more chat history or page content while preserving muscle memory, since the distance between the top row of keys and the toolbar remains fixed.
Alternatives considered
Keeping the current layout and simply collapsing the suggestion strip between the toolbar and key rows, which causes the toolbar to drop down and disrupts muscle memory.
Leaving the empty suggestion strip visible at all times, which wastes screen real estate.
Completely disabling the suggestion strip in settings, which removes prediction support even when it would be helpful.
