Three changes, one per commit.

Internal RAM on the ESP32. A board with PSRAM now keeps at least 100 KB of internal RAM free, with a 50 KB largest block, for WiFi, the web server and the UI. An ESP32-S3 driving 3,840 lights through a pin expander went from 63 KB free and a 30 KB block to 150–155 KB and a 108 KB block with the UI open, and from 75 to 102–107 fps. A classic ESP32 with the UI and preview open keeps 40–55 KB instead of 12–23.

A change rebuilds only what it reshapes. A show that moves layer windows from a service runs at full speed: a modifier's change rebuilds only its own layer, a service's writes are never saved, and a layer at opacity 0 costs nothing. On shiffy (3,840 LEDs) hpwit's show went from 1.3–1.7 s a frame to 44 ms, on a 64x64 HUB75 from 273 to 43 ms. MoonLive scripts live in project folders that mix kinds, such as moonlive/projects/hpwit/.

MoonLive services read and send JSON. A service script reads JSON from the internet (the weather, a price, a score, a headline), builds documents of its own, and sends them to this device or another, live and never saved. hpwit's show and the StadBeest autopilot build every part's look themselves, a layer per look with crossfades, and a script a document names but the device lacks is downloaded by the open page. Every ESP32 speaks HTTPS; a board without PSRAM starts a TLS session only while internal RAM holds one, and hands MoonCloud's post to the page otherwise.

Plans: Internal RAM on the ESP32, JSON in MoonLive services

What changed

  • Internal RAM: WiFi, lwIP and TLS buffers in PSRAM; platform::InternalRamObject for what a cache-safe interrupt reads; the LCD-MM ring sized by its lead over the wire; embedded files stream across ticks from 8 send slots and wait while internal RAM is low.
  • Rebuilds: a modifier change rebuilds its own layer; a service's control writes are live, never saved; an opacity-0 layer is skipped.
  • JSON: JsonFetch holds documents by generational handle, with one worker task (6 KB stack) that starts with the first request and stops once no feed is held; JsonUtil addresses and edits by JSON Pointer (RFC 6901) in integer arithmetic; a push to this device applies live at the frame boundary, to another MoonLight as PATCH /api/state?live=1, to any URL as a POST.
  • Platform: one httpFetch client on ESP32, desktop (curl, WinHTTP) and Teensy; .local names resolve over mDNS on the ESP32; cross-signed certificate chains verify.
  • MoonCloud: posts go out on the JSON worker, each with a ticket its sender reads without blocking.
  • MoonDeck: a build regenerates its sdkconfig when a fragment changes; a Serve for OTA card.

Tests

  • New unit tests for JSON Pointer reading and editing, an edit repeated a thousand times holding its memory, the JSON client (handles, feeds, pushes, coalescing, the worker's life), a service end to end, httpFetch and the TLS gate, live state documents, missing-script downloads, MoonCloud's tickets.
  • Desktop tick unchanged within a microsecond (8/8/8/2/8/7/280/8/7/8 µs); ESP32 flash +15 KB for the JSON client and TLS.

Hardware

ESP32-S3 N16R8 (shiffy, 3,840 lights), a Waveshare 64x64 HUB75, an ESP32-P4 with Ethernet, a classic Olimex ESP32, a Dig-Octa: the JSON demo's four feeds, hpwit's show and the RAM floors. Not yet seen on hardware: the StadBeest's eyes and mouth.

For users

MIGRATING: LCD-MM's ring is smaller and refuses PSRAM; the StadBeest's looks moved to encoder6–encoder8.

**Core**
- platform::InternalRamObject and kInternalFreeFloor (100 KB): a type a cache-safe interrupt reads lives in internal RAM; everything else may live in PSRAM.
- HttpServer streams embedded files from 8 send slots and admits a send only above kSendHeadroom, for embedded files, the preview and the state stream.
- DevicesModule saves only when the list changes, not on a status refresh.
- The FFT twiddle table is sized to the block (4 KB on the classic, built in on the S3) and freed with the microphone.
- WiFi NVS off (CONFIG_ESP_WIFI_NVS_ENABLED=n).

**Light domain**
- LCD-MM ring sized by its lead in rows: ringAuto takes 3-row buffers for 54 rows of lead, never past the internal floor; autoDepth is a pure function the tests pin.
- The ring refuses a frame in PSRAM with a status rather than crash at the next flash save; the refill reads its stride from the snapshot, not the source buffer.
- The refill encodes faster than the wire: unrolled shift-data emit, Correction::plainRgb fast path; the parallel snapshot split is removed and the prime is serial.
- ringDbg reports gap@slice, min lead and the refill core, reset per read.
- The ring's settings live on the driver, so switching the peripheral keeps them.

**UI**
- The status bar's 🧠 and 🧱 show free internal RAM and its largest block.

**Scripts/MoonDeck**
- run_live_scenario: free_internal and min_stack_free floors, and a browser step (open, refresh, close) through Playwright.
- gen_help lists the controls a peripheral declares on the driver card, and reads an accessor's member when neither the named member nor the call carries a comment.

**Tests**
- scenario_RAM_floor: S3 and P4 contracts at 100 KB free, a 50 KB block and 256 bytes of stack, idle, with the UI open, refreshed and closed.
- Ring: refusal with the frame in PSRAM (desktop setTestPsramRange seam), a refill reads nothing of the source, autoDepth, embedded-send streaming, overflow and memory wait; swap and ring setup extracted into helpers.
- improv smoke test skipped: needs a board on USB; the product owner's call.

**Docs/CI**
- mooncore "Internal RAM", performance "Internal RAM", led-drivers "Sizing the MoonI80 ring" with the ringDbg field table, two troubleshooting entries, a MIGRATING entry, testing floors, lessons.
- Shipped plans move to docs/work/past/plans at their PR; eight moved, past/plans/index.md and the plan-to-PR table removed.

**Reviews** (Fable, staged diff)
- Refill read the source Buffer in PSRAM: done, stride from the snapshot, pinned.
- PSRAM refusal untested: done, desktop seam and test.
- Ring guides over the card's word caps: done, moved to led-drivers.md.
- lastSaved help regressed through the accessor rule: done, the call's comment wins.
- Per-task heap column behind CONFIG_HEAP_TASK_TRACKING: done, removed.
- Hand-rolled operator new/delete: done, inherits InternalRamObject.
- Stale fork-join references, mmSnap, <numeric>: done.
- FFT comment held on the S3 only: done.
- autoDepth guard at the caller: done, inside.
- past/index.md date order: moot, table removed.

# Plan: internal RAM on the ESP32

Plan of 2026-10-21, every step done 2026-10-22. An ESP32-S3 driving 3,840 lights through a pin expander ran with 63 KB of internal RAM free and a 30 KB largest block, enough for a TLS handshake to fail and a UI refresh to crash it. The goal: as much internal RAM free as the board allows, never less than 100 KB free with a 50 KB largest block.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Resolve an accessor before accepting its receiver's comment.

For owner_->snapshotRef(), _referenced_field can find owner_ before snapshot. If owner_ has a /// comment, named uses that comment and skips the comment on snapshot. Resolve accessor-backed arguments first, then use a directly named field or the call-site comment as appropriate. The new fixture leaves owner_ undocumented, so it does not cover this case.

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟠 Major | 🏗️ Heavy lift

Allow embedded sends to make progress below the fixed threshold.

The 100 KB internal-memory floor makes kSendHeadroom 50 KB. The PR reports 40–55 KB free on a classic ESP32 with the UI open. If free memory stays below 50 KB, embedded bodies and state streams stop sending; the embedded-send drain also refreshes its stall timer on every wait. A page refresh can therefore remain incomplete indefinitely. Use a threshold suited to boards without PSRAM, or permit bounded progress and a finite wait. Based on the reported classic-ESP32 memory range in the PR objectives.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win

🔎 Supported by static analysis

🏁 Script executed:

#!/bin/bash
rg -nP -C6 '\bencodeWs2812ShiftData\b' src test
rg -nP -C4 'physPins_\s*(>|<=)\s*8' src/light/drivers

Repository: MoonModules/MoonLight

Length of output: 10579

Route shifted frames with more than eight pins to the whole-slot encoder.

ParallelLedDriver::encodeRows calls encodeWs2812ShiftData for every shifted frame. Since that function returns when physPins > 8, configurations with 9–15 shift-mode pins leave the prefilled data words unchanged and can keep the strands dark. Dispatch these configurations to encodeWs2812ShiftSlots, or implement equivalent handling inside encodeWs2812ShiftData.

Review comment at @src/light/drivers/ParallelSlots.h at line 256:
Update ParallelLedDriver::encodeRows to dispatch shifted frames with more than
eight physical pins to encodeWs2812ShiftSlots instead of encodeWs2812ShiftData,
which returns for that pin count; preserve the existing encoder path for
configurations with eight or fewer pins.

A show that moves layer windows from a service now runs at full speed: a modifier's change rebuilds only its own layer, a service's writes are never saved, and a layer at opacity 0 costs nothing. On shiffy (3,840 LEDs) the show went from 1.3 to 1.7 s a frame to 44 ms, on a 64x64 HUB75 Waveshare from 273 to 43 ms, and Art-Net from the desktop no longer freezes. MoonLive scripts now live in project folders that mix kinds, such as moonlive/projects/hpwit/.

**Core**
- MoonModule::prepareScope() (Self, Parent, Tree): a control change rebuilds the scope its module names; the Scheduler holds up to four pending containers per frame, each claimed with one atomic compare-and-swap, a fifth widening to the tree, and a container gone before the frame falls back to the tree.
- A write a service script makes is live: neither its control-surface slot nor the slot's target (the enabled pseudo-control included) is marked to be saved.
- A MoonLive script reads its file only after notifyFileChanged announces a change in or above a script folder, or under a new name: the read cost 30 to 70 ms a prepare on an ESP32-S3 under load.
- AudioService reopens its microphone and rebinds its sync socket only when their settings changed; touchesScripts/pathTouchesFolder have one home in MoonLiveScriptFile.h.
- The catalog stores each script's folder relative to moonlive/ (kCatalogFolders), the role following from the extension alone, so a project folder mixes roles; the CMake dependency globs recurse, so editing a script in a subfolder regenerates the catalog.
- HttpServer: 16 embedded-send slots, a 503 when all are busy instead of a blocking write, a tick budget and a finite memory wait.
- The ring's refill interrupt no longer runs flash code during a flash save: it reads a plain geometry block (ParallelLedDriver::hot_) instead of methods reaching the peripheral's vtable, and currentCore() and Correction::applyThrough are in IRAM. This was the INT_WDT/TG1WDT reset with a double exception on shiffy right after a config save.
- Teensy defines ptrIsPsram.

**Light domain**
- ModifierBase answers Parent; Drivers records the first layer's shape it sized from and re-prepares in onTreePrepared only when it changed, and only while enabled.
- NetworkSendDriver restarts its send task only when its destinations change, compared by the host text and addressing, so a named host keeps its stream too.
- A layer above the bottom at opacity 0 neither renders nor blends (Layer::contributes, Effects::tick, Drivers::blendLayer).
- hpwit's ten effects in moonlive/projects/hpwit/, each with controls, twinkle-stars and particle-fountain covering the whole canvas; hpwit-show.mls plays them, voronoi and the mandala taking turns per scene by opacity. The StadBeest effects, palette and autopilot in moonlive/projects/stadbeest/; stadbeest-fire is palette 65.

**UI**
- The script picker fetches a script from its catalog folder and names a collection by its folder.

**Scripts/MoonDeck**
- run_live_scenario: write_file `from` a repository file, a per-step `settle`, and `--keep` to leave what a scenario built running; the in-process runner takes `from` too and rebuilds the scope prepareScope names.
- gen_help registers the cursor kinds libclang's Python bindings lack, the CI check_docgen crash; screenshot_modules finds a script anywhere under moonlive/.
- MoonWalk: a fresh agent session per branch, and after a large commit.

**Tests**
- unit_Scheduler_prepareScope (scopes, merging, widening, a removed scope, live writes), unit_RegionModifier_prepareScope (a Region rebuilds only its layer, verified red with the old whole-tree scope; Drivers re-prepares only on a shape change), a live slot write saves nothing, a script reads its file only after an announced change, AudioService and NetworkSend keep their resources through an unchanged prepare, an invisible layer is not rendered.
- The script tests walk all of moonlive/ by extension; IR golden table re-captured for the moved and edited scripts.
- Two flaky tests fixed: FixedPointEffect's demos judged with the zoom off, the worker seam waiting for each wake rather than a fixed 5 ms.
- improv smoke test: not triggered.

**Docs/CI**
- Plan "Prepare only what a change reshapes", with its measurements; moonmodule.md, moonlight.md, testing.md, MIGRATING (palette numbers), moonlive/README (project folders); present/index.md keeps generic rules only, its Next items in the backlog; the two plans not started are named so.

**Reviews** (Fable, working diff)
- NetworkSend's same-destination check failed for named hosts: done, compared by host text and mode, named host tested.
- Orphaned doc comments in five files: done.
- moonmodule.md said one pending scope: done, four.
- The enabled pseudo-control saved on a live write: done, test extended.
- The 503 test passed with no file served: done, at least 16 whole.
- Drivers re-prepared while disabled: done, guarded.
- A failed script re-read its file every prepare: done.
- gen_help relied on a private attribute: done, guarded.
- The slot count restated the socket setting: done, it names CONFIG_LWIP_MAX_SOCKETS.
- Hand-rolled operator!=: done, defaulted ==.
- Palette 64/65 swap: done, MIGRATING line.
- Plan still named not started: accepted, the product owner's call.
- Interrupt-safety change undocumented: done, in this message.

Add the direct standard header for std::max_align_t.

src/platform/esp32/platform_esp32.cpp uses std::max_align_t without including <cstddef> or <stddef.h>. Add the required standard header so this file does not depend on transitive includes.

Preserve an empty catalog folder.

If a script sits directly under moonlive/, the catalog sends folder: "". This || group fallback changes that valid folder to effects, so mlRepoPath requests moonlive/effects/example.mle instead of moonlive/example.mle. Fall back only when the catalog entry is missing. Make mlRepoPath omit the folder separator when the folder is empty.

A service script reads JSON from the internet (the weather, a price, a score, a headline), builds documents of its own from its text, and sends them to this device or another, live and never saved. hpwit's show and the StadBeest autopilot now set up every part's look themselves, a layer per look with crossfades, and a script a document names but the device lacks is downloaded by the open page. Every ESP32 now speaks HTTPS, and a board without PSRAM starts a TLS session only while internal RAM holds one, handing MoonCloud's post to the page otherwise.

KPI: 256lights | Desktop:2406KB | tick:8/8/7/2/8/7/280/7/7/10us(FPS:125000/125000/142857/500000/125000/142857/3571/142857/142857/100000) | ESP32:2151KB | src:338(86589) | test:255(59441) | functions-over:359

**Core**
- JsonFetch: documents held by generational handle in a 16-slot table; parsed from a script's own text, fetched from a URL and kept fresh (stale-while-revalidate), or answered by a push. One worker task (6 KB stack, measured peak about 4.4 KB) runs the network through two SPSC rings, starts with the first request and stops once no feed is held and nothing is on its way.
- Pushes: to this device through Scheduler::applyLive, applied at the frame boundary as StateSource::Live and never marked dirty; to another MoonLight as PATCH /api/state?live=1; to any URL as a POST. A push to a busy target waits, the newest replacing older ones.
- JsonUtil: RFC 6901 JSON Pointer read, set (mkdir -p), copy and append; decimals read as fixed point from the number's text, in integer arithmetic, so nodes stay 24 bytes; \uXXXX decodes to UTF-8; quoted numbers read as parseFloat does; one writer, json::write, replacing StateDocument's copy.
- Platform: httpFetch (method, URL, body, answer) on ESP32, desktop (curl, WinHTTP) and Teensy; tlsRoom gates HTTPS on boards whose TLS sits in internal RAM; the ESP32 resolves .local over mDNS; cross-signed certificate verify on, so Google Trust Services chains verify. httpsPost is gone.
- MoonCloud: a route per board (Direct, Page, DirectOrPage), posts on the JSON worker, a ticket per request so MoonStats and MoonTalk each read their own outcome, settled by a non-blocking field read.
- Missing scripts: a module naming a shipped script the device lacks lists it on System's hidden `missing scripts`; the name leaves when its file lands.
- HttpServer: `?live=1` read as a whole query parameter; deleting a path that names nothing answers 404.
- MoonLive: the `json` type, raw string literals, a per-script string pool sized to its literals (up to 16 KB), and the JSON builtins in the service table.

**Light domain**
- Drivers recompiles the running palette script when its file changes; the live-palette scan is one struct rather than four statics.

**UI**
- The open page downloads every missing script through the picker's own path, each at most once a minute, finding the control by its name.

**Scripts/MoonDeck**
- jsondemo.mls shows four free feeds as scrolling text; hpwit-show.mls builds its look; plasma-wander, mandala, spinning-squares and voronoi advance their phase by elapsed time, so a speed change no longer jumps.
- stadbeest-autopilot.mls pushes each part a layer per look, fades them through encoder6 to encoder8, and pushes again every 30 s.
- sdkconfig_fragments: a build directory regenerates its sdkconfig when a fragment changes. A Serve for OTA card serves a firmware for a board to fetch.

**Tests**
- New: JsonUtil pointer and edits, JsonFetch (handles, feeds, pushes, coalescing, retirement, posts), the service end to end, httpFetch and the TLS gate, missing-script download (JS); additions for StateDocument live, the live route, the 404, MoonCloud routes and tickets, MoonStats and MoonTalk outcomes, Drivers' palette recompile. Shared fixtures for the route, SD-card and script-writing tests.

- moonlive.md gains JSON documents in a service; integrating.md and openapi.yaml the live parameter and the 404; multi-board-installation.md the StadBeest looks; MIGRATING.md the encoder remap; MoonWalk "Show live data from the internet" in Integrate; help.json regenerated; the plan's Where it stands.

**Reviews**
- Reviewer: a json handle kept across a recompile could name another document; fixed with generational handles, tested.
- Reviewer: a missing name left only through a compile; fixed, it leaves when its file lands, tested.
- Reviewer: JSON nodes grew 4 bytes; fixed, decimals derive from the text, nodes back to 24 bytes.
- Reviewer: live documents queued at scheduler stop were never answered; fixed, answered as refused, tested.
- Reviewer: MoonStats and MoonTalk shared one outcome; fixed with tickets, tested.
- Reviewer: JsonFetch is a service in core/util; skipped, HostResolver in core/util owns a worker task too.
- Reviewer: a push that never went returned a valid handle; fixed, it reports status 0, tested.
- Reviewer: `?live=1` matched by substring; fixed, read as a whole parameter, tested.
- Reviewer: the plan said the worker runs on core 1; fixed in the plan.
- Reviewer: the plan's name still says "(not started)"; deferred to the product owner.
- Pre-commit: prose, docgen, check_code and ESP32 freshness failed; fixed (sentences shortened, the new appendix moved into member comments, functions split, statics and blocking sites cut, the S3 image rebuilt), then build, tests, check_code, docgen and prose rerun clean.

preserve whether they came from a live document. Add a live flag to Deferred,
pass live() through deferControl into the deferred record, and use that flag
when applyDeferredControls calls Scheduler::setControl so live writes are not
marked to save.

Review comments at @src/core/system/HttpServerModule.cpp:
- Around line 790-793: Add the missing fsExists definition in the Teensy
platform implementation used by platform::fsExists, reusing the filesystem
object used by the other Teensy fs* functions. Return true for existing files
and directories so the HttpServerModule 404 check and directory operations both
work.

that escape, allowing it to be decoded independently; keep consuming it only
when it forms a valid surrogate pair.
- Around line 167-182: Update resetNode to release n.str through JsonDoc

@ewowi ewowi changed the title Free internal RAM on the ESP32: 150 KB and a 108 KB block on the S3 Free internal RAM on the ESP32; live JSON in MoonLive services; a change rebuilds only what it reshapes Oct 23, 2026
…steady memory

A JSON document a service edits forever now holds the memory of one edit, so the demo no longer runs a board out of RAM within days. A script recompiled or a palette script removed no longer leaves its card reading freed text, which the sanitizers caught in CI, and the Teensy build links again.

KPI: 256lights | Desktop:2422KB | tick:8/8/8/2/8/7/280/8/7/8us(FPS:125000/125000/125000/500000/125000/142857/3571/125000/142857/125000) | ESP32:2314KB | src:338(86681) | test:255(59442) | functions-over:351
Commit: src +137/-54 lines | test +43/-6 lines | duplicated lines 3315 -> 3315 (+0)

**Core**
- MoonLive: the string pool retires for one compile instead of being freed, on a recompile and on a release alike, since the module's controls name text in it until it rebuilds them; the destructor frees it.
- JsonUtil: an edit releases the text and the nodes it replaces; released nodes chain on a free list that new nodes reuse. An unpaired high surrogate reads '?' and leaves the escape after it to decode on its own.
- JsonFetch: a feed whose request could not go skips the round rather than retrying every tick; a stop counter replaces the stop flag, so a worker a timed-out join left running ends rather than serving beside the next; a push to a host too long for its URL is refused rather than cut.
- StateDocument: a deferred control keeps its document's source, so a live document's script control stays unsaved after the rebuild.

**Platform**
- Teensy: fsExists, which the 404 for a missing path needs; tlsRoom lets plain HTTP through.
- ESP32: an answer cut off mid-read is a failure, not a shorter 200; a caller keeping no answer drains it.

**Tests**
- An edit repeated a thousand times holds the memory of the first; a surrogate followed by another escape; a live document's script control lands unsaved; the SD-card helper requires its connection; the palette test checks the severity.

**Docs/CI**
- The JSON plan is named (partial) and points at the language page for every call; two over-long test comments shortened.

**Reviews**
- Reviewer: edited text and nodes grew without bound; done, free list and released text, tested.
- Reviewer: a failed send retried at tick rate; done, the round is skipped.
- Reviewer: two workers on one ring after a timed-out join; done, stop counter.
- Reviewer: a long host cut the push URL; done, refused.
- Reviewer: a read error read as end of body; done, a failure.
- Reviewer: Teensy tlsRoom refused plain HTTP; done.
- Reviewer: JsonFetch's table is about 1 KB static on every device; accepted, noted for the RAM ledger.
- Reviewer: plan name and its builtin list; done, renamed and pointing at moonlive.md.
- CodeRabbit: deferred live writes were saved; done, tested.
- CodeRabbit: Teensy fsExists; done.
- CodeRabbit: unpaired surrogate swallowed the next escape; done, tested.
- CodeRabbit: resetNode kept owned text; done with the free list.
- CodeRabbit: the helper's comment; done.
- CodeRabbit: statusOf passed without a connection; done, REQUIRE.
- CodeRabbit: the palette status check; done, severity.
- CodeRabbit (earlier round): gen_help receiver comment; skipped, a script card's own member comment is the intended help, and the change regenerated generic text.
- CodeRabbit (earlier round): shift mode past 8 pins; skipped, unreachable: 64 strands at 8 outputs per pin.
- CodeRabbit (earlier round): move the shipped RAM plan to past; the product owner's call.
- CI: ASan and TSan use-after-free in mixSchema; done, the pool retires. Teensy link; done. check_docgen annotations; done.
- Pre-merge: every check gate passed locally (whole-suite ASan included); TSan needs Linux and the Teensy build needs CI.

Check response completion before returning success.

If the peer closes early, esp_http_client_read() can return 0 before the complete response arrives. Both drainAnswer and readAnswer then accept an incomplete response. exchange can report the HTTP status as success even though the response was cut off. Check esp_http_client_is_complete_data_received(client) when a read or probe returns 0; keep the existing overflow check. Espressif uses this separate completion check in its OTA reader. A JSON feed or push on an ESP32 whose answer ends before its declared length or last chunk now reads as failed rather than as a shorter answer. A test's encode worker no longer ticks a driver after the test has destroyed it, the data race ThreadSanitizer reported in CI.

KPI: unchanged; desktop tick and flash as in the previous commit (the ESP32 change adds one completeness check).
Commit: src +8/-2 lines | test +3/-1 lines | duplicated lines 3315 -> 3315 (+0)

**Core**
- ESP32 httpFetch: an answer framed by a Content-Length or chunks counts only once IDF confirms it complete; one the server ends by closing, as MoonLight's own state route answers, stays whole when the reads end.

**Tests**
- RegionModifier prepare-scope rig releases Drivers before its members destruct, so the encode worker stops before the driver it ticks goes.
- The repeated-edit test's comment within 30 words.

**Reviews**
- CI: ThreadSanitizer data race in tickChildren from the prepare-scope test; done, the rig releases Drivers first.
- CodeRabbit: a zero read accepted without IDF's completeness check; done for a framed answer; a close-delimited one is kept whole, since requiring the check there fails every push to another MoonLight.
- CodeRabbit: the repeated-edit comment over 30 words; done.
- Checks: desktop tests, docgen and prose pass; esp32s3-n16r8 builds clean and is fresh; ThreadSanitizer needs Linux, so CI confirms the race fix.
