Summary

  • Added supervisor-approved staffing for assigned, signup, and static shifts.
  • Added the On-Shift Hours report with department, group, shift, and static-shift scopes.
  • Corrected static-shift time handling by storing editor input in UTC and converting it to department-local time for display and reporting.
  • Added localized UI, report text, documentation, database migrations, and automated coverage.

Functional Changes

Shift staffing

  • Supervisors can review staffing by day, including past shift days.
  • Automatic staffing is derived from:
    • Assigned shift rosters
    • Signup shifts, including approved signups and trades
    • Static-shift unit crews
  • Supervisors can approve a day’s staffing and override the automatic personnel.
  • Approved staffing can be reverted to automatic staffing.
  • Shift-day approvals update the current roster when the day is still in progress. Past days record who worked without changing the roster.
  • Group supervisors can manage only the groups within their scope; department-wide supervisors can manage non-group personnel and static shifts.
  • Static-shift staffing is managed per unit and requires selected personnel to belong to one of the shift’s units.
  • The staffing page now includes:
    • Staffing-by-day overview
    • Automatic versus approved staffing details
    • Added and removed personnel indicators
    • Static-shift and unit staffing support
    • Links from shift details to the staffing editor

On-Shift Hours report

  • Added a report available from the Reports area.
  • Reports hours per person across assigned, signup, and static shifts.
  • Supports reporting for:
    • The entire department
    • A department group, including child groups
    • A single assigned, signup, or static shift
  • Separates approved hours from automatic hours.
  • Breaks hours down by shift type and includes per-occurrence details.
  • Clips shifts to the selected reporting period, including shifts that cross date boundaries.
  • Prevents duplicate counting when a person occupies multiple slots on the same shift occurrence.
  • Applies personnel visibility permissions before displaying results.
  • Provides a CSV download containing per-person, per-shift details.

Data and Infrastructure

  • Added staffing and reporting domain models, calculation logic, and service APIs.
  • Added repository support for loading staffing records with personnel across a department date range.
  • Added SQL Server and PostgreSQL migrations for:
    • Correcting the static-shift fill user ID column type
    • Indexing staffing date-range and static-shift-day lookups
  • Registered the new staffing service with dependency injection.

Localization and Documentation

  • Added report resources for English, Arabic, German, Greek, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, Swedish, and Ukrainian.
  • Added localized staffing messages and labels for the supported languages.
  • Added Admin Assist catalog entries and documentation for Shift Staffing and the On-Shift Hours report.

Testing

  • Added coverage for:
    • Hours calculation and period clipping
    • Approved versus automatic staffing
    • Group filtering and duplicate personnel handling
    • Static-shift staffing and UTC/local-time conversion
    • Authorization and department scope validation
    • Staffing persistence and roster updates
    • Report rendering, CSV-related data, and query generation
    • Localization completeness for the new report resources

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Manage staffing for scheduled shifts and static workshifts, review staffing details, and clear assignments where permitted.
    • View a staffing overview by date range and select occurrences to review.
    • Run an On-Shift Hours report by department, group, or shift, with totals, occurrence details, and CSV export.
    • Request open or targeted shift trades, apply to open trades, and review or cancel requests.
    • Configure shift-trade approvers and access workshift days and trade details through the API.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Shift and workshift times are displayed and saved using department-local time.

Walkthrough

The change adds staffing management for scheduled shifts and static workshifts, open trade workflows with configurable approvers, and an on-shift-hours report. It also adds date-range staffing queries, database migrations, API endpoints, and trade notifications.

Changes: Staffing, reporting, and shift trades

Layer / File(s) Summary
Staffing queries and schema
Providers/Resgrid.Providers.Migrations/Migrations/M0305_AddShiftStaffingHours.cs, Providers/Resgrid.Providers.MigrationsPg/Migrations/M0305_AddShiftStaffingHoursPg.cs, Repositories/Resgrid.Repositories.DataRepository/Configs/SqlConfiguration.cs, Repositories/Resgrid.Repositories.DataRepository/Queries/Shifts/*, Repositories/Resgrid.Repositories.DataRepository/Servers/*, Repositories/Resgrid.Repositories.DataRepository/ShiftStaffingRepository.cs
Migrations add staffing indexes and change workshift fill identifier types. Database configurations and the repository retrieve staffing records by department and date range.
Staffing retrieval and updates
Core/Resgrid.Services/ServicesModule.cs, Core/Resgrid.Services/ShiftStaffingService.cs
The service builds shift-day and workshift-day staffing, reads ranges and reports, validates and saves staffing changes, and clears manual records or fills. Completed workshift trades are applied to staffing results.
Staffing endpoints and editor

Explanation

The title names two parts of the changeset: the shift hours reporting fix and expanded shift functionality. The changeset adds an On-Shift Hours report, which matches the first part. The title is partly specific but does not name the main change, which is supervisor-approved shift staffing with the new report. The title is also truncated with an ellipsis and contains a typo ("expadning"). It does not describe the staffing, trade, or migration work.

FromWorkshiftDay treats every WorkshiftFill for the day as approved manual staffing without filtering on WorkshiftFill.Approved, so an unapproved or legacy fill can replace automatic unit crews and mark the report day as manually approved. The migration's Down method removes only the indexes even though Up changes WorkshiftFills.FilledById from int to nvarchar(128), leaving the database column as a string while the prior schema and model expect an integer; subsequent writes, queries, or older application versions can then fail or mis-handle the field. Restore the prior column type in Down after removing or converting incompatible values, and apply the equivalent reversal in the PostgreSQL migration.

Migration rollback leaves ShiftSignupTrades.SourceShiftSignupId nullable after deleting static trades and removing the new columns, so the legacy schema no longer matches the pre-migration required SourceShiftSignupId contract and can retain invalid null rows. After deleting null-source rows, execute ALTER TABLE [ShiftSignupTrades] ALTER COLUMN [SourceShiftSignupId] int NOT NULL and restore the original constraint or index definition as needed.

HTML boolean attribute handling causes every role option to emit selected, because selected="@(Model.TradeApproverRoleIds.Contains(role.PersonnelRoleId))" renders both selected="False" and selected="True"; HTML enables boolean attributes by presence, so reopening or submitting Shift Settings can select every department role and grant all role members shift-trade approval. Reuse eligibility lookups within GetOpenShiftTrades.

GetTradeEligibilityAsync runs once for each non-requester trade. Each call reloads department members and role assignments. Reuse these lookups for the request, or add them to a request-scoped cache used by the eligibility builder.

The GetPendingApprovals loop does not pass eligibility to ConvertTradeAsync, so it does not trigger this loading path.

kody code-review Kody Rules high

The CanUserFinishTradeAsync(trade) authorization call can fail without recording the trade context or mapping the exception. Catch the failure, log trade.ShiftSignupTradeId, and rethrow or map it appropriately.

Kody rule violation: Add try-catch blocks for external calls

(bool Allowed, bool AsApprover) access;
try
{
    access = await CanUserFinishTradeAsync(trade);
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
    _logger.LogError(ex, "Failed to authorize finishing trade {TradeId}", trade.ShiftSignupTradeId);
    throw;
}

Suggested Code:

(bool Allowed, bool AsApprover) access;
try
{
    access = await CanUserFinishTradeAsync(trade);
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
    _logger.LogError(ex, "Failed to authorize finishing trade {TradeId}", trade.ShiftSignupTradeId);
    throw;
}
