Breaking changes:

• Drops support for Django 4.2, 5.0, and 5.1 (all end-of-life). Supported versions are now Django 5.2 LTS, 6.0, and 6.1;
• tailwind init and tailwind dev no longer install cookiecutter/honcho automatically through pip's private API (which failed in uv-created environments). They now fail with a clear error asking you to install django-tailwind[cookiecutter] or django-tailwind[honcho];
• Removes the deprecated, no-op TAILWIND_DEV_MODE setting;
• The npm-based v4 template now requires Node.js 22+ (postcss-cli 12, postcss-nested 8);

New:

• Adds Django 6.1 support and tests against Python 3.15;
• daisyUI is now available in standalone mode: tailwind init --tailwind-version 4s --include-daisy-ui and tailwind plugin_install daisyui download daisyUI's single-file plugin (v5.7.48), and tailwind install restores it if missing;
• Adds Django system checks tailwind.W001 (TAILWIND_APP_NAME not set) and tailwind.W002 (Tailwind app not in INSTALLED_APPS);
• Adds llms.txt with installation instructions for AI coding agents;
• Deprecates the Tailwind CSS v3 template; tailwind init prints a warning when it's selected;

Fixes:

• Standalone tailwind build/start/install now fail with a non-zero exit code when the Tailwind CSS binary fails, instead of silently reporting success;
• A failing npm command now raises a CommandError carrying npm's exit code instead of calling sys.exit();
• tailwind dev runs honcho with the current Python interpreter instead of whichever honcho is first on PATH;
• tailwind plugin_install validates styles.css before installing anything, so a failure no longer leaves a half-installed plugin behind (v3 apps get a clear "v4 only" error);
• Updates the default standalone binary to v4.3.3; the previous default v4.3.0 macOS binary is killed on launch by macOS 27;

Maintenance:

• Updates Tailwind CSS to 4.3.3, daisyUI to 5.7.48, and other JS and Python dependencies;
• Builds Read the Docs with uv from the docs dependency group; removes docs/requirements.txt and .gitpod.yml;
• Hardens the CI workflow and adds Dependabot for GitHub Actions and uv;
• Adds Documentation, Changelog, and Issues project URLs; drops the license classifier that duplicates the SPDX license field (PEP 639);
