Pong

A classic Pong game built with Lua and LÖVE (Love2D). This project recreates the iconic arcade game while exploring the fundamentals of 2D game development, game loops, player input, collision detection, and movement.

About

Pong is a two-player arcade game where each player controls a paddle to hit a ball back and forth. The objective is to score points by getting the ball past the opponent's paddle.

This project is a learning exercise in game development using Lua and the LÖVE framework.

Built With

  • Lua — Game logic and scripting
  • LÖVE (Love2D) — 2D game framework and rendering

Getting Started

Prerequisites

Install Lua and LÖVE 2D. The game runs through the LÖVE framework.

On Arch Linux:

sudo pacman -S love

Run the Game

  1. Clone the repository:

    git clone https://github.com/Strangerfuture/pong.git
  2. Navigate to the project directory:

    cd pong
  3. Run the game:

    love .

Controls

Player Move Up Move Down
Player 1 W S
Player 2 ↑ Up Arrow ↓ Down Arrow

Each player controls a paddle to hit the ball and score points against the opponent.

Learning Goals

  • Understanding the LÖVE game loop (love.load, love.update, and love.draw)
  • Handling keyboard input
  • Implementing ball and paddle movement
  • Learning collision detection and response
  • Practicing basic game state and scoring logic

Built with Lua and LÖVE 2D as a hands-on game development project.
