Closes #41

Icon fonts

index.css declared all three Material Symbols fonts (~1 MB together), and the package gave no way to load just one. This builds on the opt-in entries from @tedi-design-system/core 6.10.0 (TEDI-Design-System/core#146).

  • The bundled styles now use core's index-without-icons. A build step writes that bundle out as index-without-icons.css and appends all three icon styles to index.css, so existing consumers see no change.
  • Core's icons/{outlined,rounded,sharp,all}.css ship under icons/ and point at the existing fonts/ folder.
  • New exports: ./index-without-icons.css, ./icons/*.css.
  • Storybook still loads all three styles.
  • @tedi-design-system/core is pinned to exactly 6.11.2 so token changes only arrive through a deliberate bump.

Single-style setup:

import '@tedi-design-system/react/index-without-icons.css';
import '@tedi-design-system/react/icons/outlined.css';

Docs: an "Icon fonts" section at the end of Get started (single-style import, file table, PWA globIgnores note), plus the same recommendation on the Icon story and type prop, and in the tedi-react skill.

Core 6.9.0 → 6.11.2 follow-up

Reviewed the core diff for token and mixin changes:

  • The removed --loader-skeleton-height-{100,200,400,500} tokens are not used anywhere.
  • The focus-element mixin (6.9.1) no longer hides the outline for mouse users. The community light-item, filter-item and selector-item used it under :focus, so a mouse click drew the outline. They now use :focus-visible.
  • ChoiceGroup card (tedi-ready) also called the mixin, but from a dead block: &__label nested in &--card compiled to .tedi-choice-group-item--card__label, which is never rendered. The block is removed; card focus is drawn by the existing :has(input:focus-visible) rule, so nothing visible changes.

Testing

  • npm run build: index.css references all three icon fonts, index-without-icons.css none, and each icons/<style>.css exactly one.
  • Icon and ChoiceGroup unit tests pass.
  • To check in Storybook: clicking a community ChoiceGroup light, filter or selector item shows no outline; Tab or arrow keys show it.

Angular counterpart: TEDI-Design-System/angular#774

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added stylesheet options for loading the core styles without icon fonts, then selecting individual icon styles or all styles.
    • Added guidance on choosing an icon style, handling missing styles, and avoiding unnecessary font precaching.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Choice-group focus styling now appears for keyboard-visible focus rather than every focused input.
  • Documentation
    • Updated icon usage guidance and examples to explain the available font-loading options.

Bundle core's index-without-icons and ship index-without-icons.css plus
icons/{outlined,rounded,sharp,all}.css next to index.css, which still declares
all three Material Symbols styles. Pin @TEDI-Design-System/core to 6.11.2.
Document the single-style setup and the PWA precache note in Get started.
Core 6.9.1 dropped the keyboard-only check and border radius from the
focus-element mixin. Use :focus-visible and restore the card radius.

📝 Walkthrough

The change adds CSS entry points for stylesheets with and without Material Symbols fonts, updates the build and documentation for selecting icon styles, and changes choice-group label focus styling.

Changes: Material Symbols font entries

Layer / File(s) Summary
Build and expose icon CSS
package.json, vite.lib.config.ts, src/tedi/styles/index.scss, .storybook/preview.tsx
The build creates index-without-icons.css, appends core icon styles to index.css, and copies icon CSS files into dist/icons. Package exports and font-path replacement cover the new CSS files. The TEDI stylesheet uses the core entry point without icons, and Storybook imports the core icon stylesheet.
Document icon font selection
src/tedi/docs/getStarted.mdx, src/tedi/components/base/icon/*, skills/tedi-react/SKILL.md
The documentation describes importing the icon-free entry point with one icon-style stylesheet. The getting-started guide also covers font assets, fallback rendering, and PWA precaching.

Choice-group focus styling

Layer / File(s) Summary
Update choice-group focus styles
src/community/components/form/choice-group/components/{filter-item,light-item,selector-item}/*, src/tedi/components/form/choice-group/components/choice-group-item/*
Community choice-group focus rules now use :focus-visible instead of :focus. The TEDI choice-group item stylesheet removes its label rule, including its layout, cursor, and focus styling.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes

Change: Feature · Severity of issue fixed: Medium

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to d7eff

The documented single-style setup has no identified merge-blocking issue. Merge after normal checks.

Security architecture risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 72f68

The new stylesheet entries separate optional icon fonts from base styles while preserving the existing all-icons entry. The reviewed changes do not introduce a material security risk or expand application privileges.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The identified contract change affects library build outputs and consuming applications' stylesheet and font selection. The inspected entrypoints do not grant new tenant, service, credential, or data-store authority.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • inferred — The new filesystem operations consume trusted dependency CSS and write fixed paths beneath dist. Caller-supplied Icon values do not feed those operations, and the full-base comparison shows no new connection between application input and build authority.

Explanation

The core dependency update and icon stylesheet build changes support issue [#41]. The community ChoiceGroup :focus-visible changes and removal of the dead card label block address focus behavior from the core mixin update, not icon-font loading or its documentation. These changes are separate follow-up work.

Resolution

Move the ChoiceGroup focus and dead-block changes to a separate pull request, unless the project requires them in this pull request to adopt core 6.11.2; if required, document that dependency compatibility requirement and keep the changes limited to that requirement.

The nested &__label block compiled to .tedi-choice-group-item--card__label,
which the component never renders, and its focus rule targeted an input class
that is not set. Card focus is drawn by the existing :has(input:focus-visible)
rule.
