test(webview): finish CSS transitions after the visual theme changes - #2327
applyVisualTheme changes the theme classes after the story mounts. The Button component uses transition-colors, so its border color changes over about 150 ms. expectContrast reads the computed color at once. It can read a color between the old and new theme, so the check fails at random.
The WelcomeViewProvider test shows the problem in the high-contrast-light theme:
The screenshot assertions do not show the problem, because toHaveScreenshot disables animations.
This PR finishes each running CSSTransition in applyVisualTheme after the theme classes change. The contrast checks then read the final theme colors. The change does not finish other animation types, because finish() throws an error on an infinite CSS animation. document.getAnimations() also returns transitions inside shadow roots, so the change covers the toolkit components too.
Test Procedure
I ran the visual tests in the pinned Playwright container (mcr.microsoft.com/playwright:v1.64.1-noble).
Run
Result
WelcomeViewProvider.visual.tsx --repeat-each=10, before the fix
7 of 40 failed
WelcomeViewProvider.visual.tsx --repeat-each=20, after the fix
80 of 80 passed
Full visual suite, after the fix
All screenshot baselines match
To repeat the test, run this command from webview-ui/:
pnpm test:visual:docker
To check the flaky case, run the welcome test many times in the container:
corepack pnpm exec playwright test -c playwright-ct.config.ts src/components/welcome/__tests__/WelcomeViewProvider.visual.tsx --repeat-each=20

Tests
Added visual coverage for switching to the high-contrast light theme, including verification of the provider button’s border color and confirmation that active transitions finish after the theme changes.
The test also checks that CSS animations remain active during the theme switch.
After applying a visual theme, applyVisualTheme finishes active CSS transitions. A visual test checks that transitions have stopped and verifies the provider button’s computed top border color in the high-contrast-light theme.

applyVisualTheme changes the theme classes after the story mounts. The
Button transition-colors class then changes the border color over about
150 ms. expectContrast can read a color between the two themes, so the
WelcomeViewProvider contrast check fails at random.
Finish each running CSSTransition after the theme classes change. Other
animation types stay as they are, because finishing an infinite CSS
animation throws an error.

applyVisualTheme finishes only CSS transitions, because finish() throws on
an infinite animation. Add an infinite animation to the visual theme test
and check that it is still running after the theme switch.
