[Fix] apply_diff auto-approves edits outside the workspace - #2343
I commented "Claiming" on the issue. Maintainer assignment is pending.
Description
apply_diff did not set isOutsideWorkspace in its approval payload. checkAutoApproval reads a missing value as false. So with alwaysAllowWrite on, auto-approval approved diffs to files outside the workspace. This occurred even when alwaysAllowWriteOutsideWorkspace was off and no allowedWriteFiles pattern matched the path. write_to_file and edit asked for approval in the same situation.
This PR computes isPathOutsideWorkspace(absolutePath) in ApplyDiffTool and adds it to the payload. It uses the same pattern as EditTool and WriteToFileTool. The change covers two places:
execute: the approval payload. Both the diff-view path and the preventFocusDisruption path use this payload.
handlePartial: the streaming preview payload.
The auto-approval logic does not change.
Test Procedure
New spec: src/core/tools/__tests__/applyDiffTool.outsideWorkspace.spec.ts
The approval payload reports isOutsideWorkspace for a file inside and a file outside the workspace, on the diff-view path and on the preventFocusDisruption path.
The partial preview payload reports isOutsideWorkspace for both cases.
The payload goes through checkAutoApproval with alwaysAllowWrite: true:
Outside the workspace, alwaysAllowWriteOutsideWorkspace: false: ask.
Outside the workspace, alwaysAllowWriteOutsideWorkspace: true: approve.
Inside the workspace: approve.
I ran the new spec without the fix. 7 of 9 tests failed, including the "outside the workspace asks" case. The 2 approve cases passed, as expected.
applyDiffTool.failureReporting.spec.ts now mocks isPathOutsideWorkspace. Its vscode mock has no workspace export, and the tool now calls the check.
Commands (from src):
npx vitest run core/tools core/auto-approval core/assistant-message # 56 files, 1096 tests pass
pnpm run check-types # pass
pnpm exec eslint --prune-suppressions --max-warnings=0 <changed files> # pass, no suppression change

Issue Linked: This PR is linked to an approved GitHub Issue (see "Related GitHub Issue" above).
Scope: My changes are focused on the linked issue (one major feature/fix per PR).
Self-Review: I reviewed my own code with care.
Writing Style: The PR title and description use Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE100): short sentences, plain words, active voice, one idea per sentence, no contractions.
Testing: New and/or updated tests have been added to cover my changes (if applicable).
Test Helpers (test changes only): Shared test helpers (src/test-utils/, @/utils/test-utils) are used only for mechanical duplication; test intent and scenario-specific mocks remain visible.
Visual Snapshot (UI changes only): Not applicable. This PR has no UI change.
Documentation Impact: I checked if my changes need documentation updates (see "Documentation Updates" section below).
apply_diff did not set isOutsideWorkspace in its approval payload.
Auto-approval read the missing value as inside the workspace, so with
alwaysAllowWrite on it approved diffs to files outside the workspace
even when alwaysAllowWriteOutsideWorkspace was off.
Compute the flag in execute and handlePartial, as write_to_file and
edit already do.

New Features
Applied-diff approval messages and previews now indicate when a file is outside the workspace. Outside-workspace files require approval unless that option is enabled.
ApplyDiffTool now marks completed and partial applied-diff messages with whether the resolved target path is outside the workspace. Tests cover reported flags and auto-approval decisions under outside-workspace settings.

Completed and partial applied-diff messages include the outside-workspace status of the resolved path. Tests check the status for inside and outside paths, and verify auto-approval outcomes when outside-workspace writes are allowed or disallowed.
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#1918: Routes apply_diff saves through guardedWrite, which requires approval data for outside-workspace targets.
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#1917: Passes outside-workspace approval and a captured canonical target from ApplyDiffTool to guarded saves.

…heck
Run isPathOutsideWorkspace against a mocked workspace folder. A ../ path
that resolves outside the workspace sets isOutsideWorkspace and asks for
approval. A path inside the workspace is still auto-approved.
