refactor: retire historical benchmark execution - #295
Conversation
- Require v0.5.0 or newer on both sides of new benchmark measurements, rejecting unsupported releases before fetching or creating worktrees. - Remove legacy API and layout adapters, baseline-row exemptions, and the performance-github-assets recipe and assets subcommand. - Preserve scientific validation, archived artifacts, and offline replay of retained runs that use the supported benchmark contract. - Generalize the release guide for future releases and require uv 0.13.3. - Line 78: Update the measurement-version wording in the document to make the
v0.5.0 minimum unconditional: state that new measurements require v0.5.0 or
newer on both sides, and revise the later reference that currently says “before
v0.5.0” to match this policy.

- Make the v0.5.0 measurement minimum unconditional and remove the obsolete adoption deadline. - Document direct norm API calls and complete rational-input comparisons, while preserving the distinction for frozen historical reports. - Remove redundant norm scopes from the benchmark and comparison tests. - Validate with Markdown and spelling checks, default and exact-feature documentation builds, Rust formatting, and git diff --check. - Record that full local CI stopped at a Taplo macOS configuration panic; subsequent CI stages were not reached. Addresses review feedback on #295.
Historical benchmark compatibility adds maintenance work ahead of v0.5.1. This change requires both release labels in new measurements to be v0.5.0 or newer and rejects older releases before fetching sources or creating worktrees.
just performance-github-assetsand theassetssubcommand. Retained runs remain available for offline rendering when they satisfy the supported benchmark contract; archived artifacts are unchanged. The remaining Python script migration is tracked in acgetchell/research-repo-tools#115; this PR completes the historical-compatibility cleanup that precedes it.
Validation:
just cipassed on macOS arm64, including 163 Python tests, Rust tests and doctests, linting, static analysis, benchmark builds, and examples. Regression coverage includes rejection of older releases on either side before measurement side effects, missing required benchmark rows, and offline replay of a retained v0.5.0/v0.4.6 run.Summary by CodeRabbit
