Summary

  • Add sd.modulate.v1 for F32 modulation with optional shift, broadcasting, and strided inputs, with CPU, CUDA/HIP/MUSA, and Vulkan kernels.
  • Migrate shared model modulation logic and match ConvRot fusion directly against Modulate nodes, replacing the previous MUL/ADD chains.
  • Preserve separate FP32 rounding, handle overlapping buffers, and retain upstream ggml and non-F32 fallbacks.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added optimized modulation for F32 operations on supported CPU, CUDA, ROCm, MUSA, and Vulkan backends, with optional shift support.
    • Expanded convolution-rotation fusion to handle modulation directly, including scale-only modulation.
    • Updated diffusion model operations to use the new modulation path where supported; other configurations retain the existing multiply-and-add behavior.

Walkthrough

The change adds an F32 Modulate operation with CPU, CUDA, and Vulkan implementations. Diffusion model callers use a shared helper, and CUDA and Vulkan ConvRot fusion now recognize Modulate nodes.

Changes: F32 Modulate operation

Layer / File(s) Summary
Operation contract and helper
src/core/ggml_extensions.cpp, src/core/ggml_extensions.h, src/core/ggml_extend.cpp, src/core/ggml_extend.h, docs/ggml_extensions.md
The extension defines F32 Modulate validation, output shape, workspace sizing, backend selection, and fallback arithmetic.
CPU, CUDA, and Vulkan execution
src/core/cpu/*, src/core/cuda/*, src/core/vulkan/*, CMakeLists.txt, cmake/backend_extensions.h.in
The backends register Modulate kernels. They support optional shifts, broadcasted inputs, and overlapping output buffers.
ConvRot fusion for Modulate
src/core/cuda/convrot.cu, src/core/cuda/convrot_kernel.h, src/core/vulkan/int8.cpp, src/core/vulkan/shaders/modulate_convrot.comp, docs/ggml_extensions.md
CUDA and Vulkan fusion match Modulate nodes directly. RMS modulation uses shorter chains, and Vulkan supports an optional shift.
Diffusion model callers
src/model/diffusion/*.hpp
Model modulation helpers use ggml_ext_modulate. Call sites pass GGMLRunnerContext* where required.

Normal runtime backend initialization is covered, but callers supplying a CPU backend directly may be unable to execute modulation. Register its extensions before creating the node.

Register extensions for the backend before creating the Modulate node.

ggml_ext_modulate creates a sd.modulate.v1 custom node when ctx->backend is CPU. The CPU kernel for that op is installed only by sd_ggml_register_extensions. A CPU backend that the caller creates directly through the ggml API does not pass through that function. The node can then fail at graph execution. The repository's own backend factories already register extensions. sd_ggml_rope_apply also registers its backend before it builds a custom op.
