All apps are being assigned the same icon in Cinnamon panel+6 #100

Description

@gl-santos

When I start the first app, the correct icon is shown on the panel. After that, any app launched is assigned the same icon of the first launched app.

    @Lurux

    I don't see this problem anymore, tested with both Firefox and Chromium web apps. Anyone can confirm ?

    The problem still happens. If you already have a browser window opened, it works correctly, otherwise, all apps launched by Web Apps get the same icon of the first app launched.

    Linux Mint 20.1
    Cinnamon 4.8.6
    Brave Version 1.25.68 Chromium: 91.0.4472.77 (Official Build) (64-bit)

    EDIT: Looks like it's a Cinnamon bug. I've tested in Mate Desktop and it works fine with Mate.

    This issue happens to me too. The icons of two Goland windows are shown as the Chromium icon.

    For me it was the mismatching StartupWMClass in .desktop file and the result of xprop WM_CLASS.
    I wrote my fix here: https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/805588/343279

    Sounds like the Web App tool needs to set the StartupWMClass to what Chromium makes!

    Chromium ignores the --class flag when --app=URL is used and instead derives WM_CLASS from the app URL itself. It takes the URL host+path and converts it to a valid X11 class by replacing characters like . and / with _. So https://www.google.com/maps becomes www.google.com__maps.

    For Firefox-based browsers, the exec string passes --class WebApp-{codename} and Firefox respects it, so WM_CLASS stays as WebApp-{codename} — the manager-assigned value.
