I bought this device as well without confirming it would work with home assistant integration. 😔
I just wanted to add I notice this device does not show the lock/unlock option on the Broadlink app. It can be added on the new Broadlink Magic Home app and there it has an option to "connect to a 3rd-party" where it can be set as a server or as a client but I cannot find any documentation on that...
I am with you @joaofreire11 I also purchased it as a pack of items that were installed in my home and I did not check before accepting it. Now I am also in a dilemma if I should trash it and get an older version, or go the DYI way with a 433MHz antenna and an ESP32 :)
I have a Broadlink RM Max and have submitted #838 to add support for it (device type 0xAF8B, mapped to the rm4pro class). IR learning and sending tested successfully on my device.
I notice this issue has been open since August 2025, and PR #831 (RM5 Plus support) has been waiting for review since October 2025. There are 20+ community members requesting RM Max support.
I'd be happy to help maintain this library going forward — reviewing PRs, adding new device types, cutting releases. Would either of you be open to adding me as a collaborator?
Thanks for all the work you've put into this project!
The project is not abandoned. We still intend to release updates. In fact, I have a few updates that I started but haven't been able to get back to and finish yet.
I've been working on several projects simultaneously, most of them corporate. The volume of requests and direct messages I receive is honestly overwhelming. Unfortunately, when time becomes limited, open-source projects are usually the ones that suffer the most.
We definitely need to bring in more maintainers to keep adding new codes and updates, preferably someone who is willing to take ownership of maintaining and contributing new codes on a regular basis.

I've given up, got a RM4 Pro, and quickly got it all set. It's even better, packing also a temp/humidity sensor and a shielded power cable. Going to sell the max on local marketplace. Unsubbing here, good luck to you all...
I have a working fix for the RM Max (0xAF8B) in PR #838.
The key finding: the RM Max uses rmpro-style <I framing (4-byte command prefix) for IR learn/send, not rm4pro-style <HI framing. Placing it in the rm4pro class causes "device is locked" errors because the packet structure doesn't match what the firmware expects.
The fix moves 0xAF8B from the rm4pro block to the rmpro block, which gives correct IR and RF support.
Tested and confirmed working with local control (IR learning and sending) on firmware V62130.

I'm also using the RM Max. I'd like to try to use this driver to create scenes of multiple TV remote commands to control my Samsung Smart TV. I believe the remote for this TV uses Bluetooth. The RM Max seems to be able to control the TV when adding the associated appliance for it. I don't know if the Sweep RF command in the driver includes the detection of Bluetooth but attempting to use the command to detect commands from the TV remote does not appear to work. I hope that this driver will be updated to fully support the Broadlink RM Max.

hI @amasolov!
Is it really about this single line??
Oh wow!
And because the maintainers haven't responded to #831 for months, I don't believe anything will happen here.
Is there any chance of forking this and continuing it as an HACS community integration?
Anyway - thanks for your effort and your kind offer to the maintainers to help with your support. Too bad, they've completely abandoned the project.

Hello @amasolov ! Thank you so much for your help!
I can help testing if needed.
@mjg59, @felipediel, if you could add @amasolov to the list of maintainers that would be great. 😁
