rust2-ts refused Any::type_id, TypeId::of, and any use of a TypeId: a downcast checked the class of the value's type, but no JS value stood for a type, so a type no object holds had none, and a &mut dyn Any of a value JS copies has a second class.
Approach
As decided with the maintainer on 2026-11-04 (in the quest's Plan), a TypeId is rustc's 128-bit type_id_hash of the type, which std's TypeId holds at run time, as 32 lowercase hex digits (rs.TypeId, in the new ts/runtime/rs/any.ts).
TypeId::of::<T>(), a value's Any::type_id, and a TypeId constant the compiler evaluated (read back through the GlobalAlloc::TypeId its first word points into), or a reference to one (read from the memory it points into), lower to that string.
A panic hook's PanicHookInfo::payload has the dyn Any classes' type (rs.hookPayload is generic over them), so a hook can call type_id on it.
A dyn Any and a crate's own trait over Any hold type_id as a method, each class returning its type's as a constant.
std's TypeId traits, not u128's: == is ===; Ord is derived over the hash's pointer-sized words, lowest first (rs.typeIdCmp); Hash writes one u64, the high half (rs.typeIdHash); Debug writes TypeId(0x…) (rs.fmtTypeIdDebug) in std's write!(f, "TypeId({:#034x})", ..) sequence: TypeId(, 0x, a write_char for each leading zero, the digits, and ), each its own write, stopping at the first that fails. It works as a hash and B-tree key and in derives.
Differential test ts/fixtures/lang/dyns/src/ids.rs: TypeIds of many types, through type parameters, of values and of trait objects (borrowed, &mut, boxed, Rc, upcast), in derives, a HashMap, a HashSet, and a BTreeSet, a logging Hasher, Debug's shape, and Debug into a capped, logging fmt::Write (where it fails partway and the writes it makes). The bits are the crate's metadata's, so checks compare within a run rather than the exact bits.
The quest is deleted, with its links in quest/m3/README.md, quest/m2/ts-model/README.md, and ts/README.md's "Not yet", which now lists only what trait objects still refuse (a trait with a const parameter, an array, a pointer other than &, &mut, Box, Arc, Rc, Weak, or Pin). quest/m3/ts-wasm-bindgen/spike.md, new on main, no longer links it.
Impact
Translator output: TypeId translates as rs.TypeId; dyn Any objects gain a typeId$Any member once a call dispatches to it. Runtime adds rs.TypeId, rs.typeIdCmp, rs.typeIdHash, rs.fmtTypeIdDebug. rs.hookPayload is generic, returning its classes' type rather than object. No wire impact.
The reject fixture's objects::any_type_id case is removed, since it now translates.
Alternatives
Rejected in the quest's Plan with the maintainer: the type's path as a string (order and Debug not native's), and the class itself (still needs a value for order and hash, and a class for a type no object holds).
Choices made without asking
In a census over type parameters, a TypeId of a type that still has parameters lowers to undefined, since only an instance decides the type; the real translation is always monomorphic.
The 128 bits are kept as a hex string rather than an rs.u128, so equality is === and a hash-map key needs no wrapper.
Follow-ups
None.

Validation
just ci: passed on 339c7e1 (origin/main merged at f56859c). Merging main's rs.String (moq-dev/rust2#574) gave rs.hookPayload one type parameter per payload class, since a String class now holds an rs.String and a str class a JS string; the snapshots were regenerated with UPDATE_EXPECT=1.
Both CodeRabbit findings reproduced before the fix: a &TypeId constant failed translation ("a pointer into memory translation can't name"), and a hook calling payload.type_id() failed tsc (TS2322: Type 'object' is not assignable to type 'Any'). ids.rs and hooked.rs now cover both, and both match native.
The capped-writer case fails against the previous single-write fmtTypeIdDebug (144 differences from native in lang::dyns) and passes with the fix.

Walkthrough
The compiler now translates Rust TypeId values and dyn Any::type_id calls. The runtime provides TypeId comparison, hashing, and Debug formatting. New fixtures check these operations across concrete and trait-object values, collections, and derived operations. Documentation and rejection fixtures now reflect the added translation support.

Explanation
The title "Trait objects' TypeId" names the main change: trait objects and TypeId translation. The changeset adds TypeId translation to rs.TypeId, the runtime TypeId helpers, and the type_id method on dyn Any, and removes the ts-dyn quest. The title is short and specific, though it is a noun phrase rather than a full sentence.

fmtTypeIdDebug sends the whole representation to one write_str. Rust's TypeId Debug implementation uses write!(f, "TypeId({:#034x})", self.as_u128()), writing the prefix before formatting the number. This changes observable partial output on an error: using the existing Capped writer pattern in ts/fixtures/lang/shapes/src/fmt.rs with a seven-byte capacity, write!(w, "{:?}", TypeId::of::<u8>()) leaves "TypeId(" in native Rust, but leaves an empty buffer in the translation because its single 42-byte write is rejected. A writer with a call budget can also return a different success/error result. The new fixture checks Debug's final string shape only, so it does not cover this path. Preserve std's incremental formatting and error propagation, and add a capped/logging-writer differential case.
Approach: The chosen rustc hash representation and shared constant/dispatch lowering follow the recorded maintainer decision. Keeping TypeId-specific ordering and hashing separate from u128 is the right direction; the finding above concerns the newly added formatter, not that representation.
Verification: Static review through the GitHub connector of the change, surrounding lowering/runtime code, fixtures, repository guidance, PR history, and upstream TypeId implementation. No build, tests, local commands, or browser execution were performed. The validation reported in the PR body was not independently rerun.
std's TypeId Debug is write!(f, "TypeId({:#034x})", self.as_u128()), and pad_integral with # and 0 writes 0x, then one write_char for each leading zero, then the digits. fmtTypeIdDebug now sends the same sequence through fmtWriteFmt and fmtPadIntegral: TypeId(, 0x, the zero fills, the digits, and ), stopping at the first write that fails.
ts/fixtures/lang/dyns/src/ids.rs adds a capped, logging fmt::Write. It checks the partial text and the call count at caps 0 through 9 (cap 7 leaves TypeId(), the pieces of an uncapped write, and that a cap one byte short leaves everything but ). Each check gives the same output whatever the hash bits are. Run against the old single-write version, lang::dyns reports 144 differences from native. With the fix it passes, and just ci passes too.
The previous P2 partial-write finding is addressed. fmtTypeIdDebug now uses fmtWriteFmt plus a fixed alternate/zero-padded integer spec, so the prefix, 0x, leading-zero characters, digits, and closing parenthesis are separate writes and errors propagate at each step. The new capped/logging writer fixture checks small capacities, successful write segmentation, and failure before the closing parenthesis. The integer helper retains one digit for an all-zero hash.
No new actionable findings in this focused formatter follow-up. Direction: retain this error-path coverage; no further change requested for the prior finding.
Verification limits: GitHub-only static comparison with the previous review and current base, inspecting the formatter, shared formatting helpers, and regression fixture. Not a fresh exhaustive review of unchanged TypeId lowering or changes merged from main. No build, tests, benchmarks, or just ci executed; PR-reported validation was not independently rerun.
If both Rc operations lower to the dyn Any ID, their comparison still prints true. Add Rc<dyn Any> to the pairwise checks so the differential test detects that alias. Add cases for the new last ID and update the generated snapshot.

A `&TypeId` constant, or a reference to one, reads the `TypeId` from the
memory it points into, rather than refusing a pointer into memory.
`rs.hookPayload` returns the payload classes' type, so a hook can call
`type_id` on its payload and type-check.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
No new actionable findings in the two focused fixes. Referenced TypeId constants now preserve the allocation offset and read the pointee through the existing constant decoder; intermediate reference layers pass through the normal scalar loader. The added fixture checks both dereferencing U8_REF and comparing against it. hookPayload now returns the type shared by its generated payload constructors rather than object, and the updated hook snapshot calls typeId$Any with that member present on both text constructors and the non-text payload wrappers.
Direction: retain both regressions alongside the existing capped-writer coverage. An explicit nested-reference TypeId fixture would additionally pin the recursive path, but I found no defect in that path by inspection. The previously addressed partial-write finding remains unchanged.
Limits: GitHub-only static review of the follow-up commit, surrounding constant loading, runtime hook code, and affected source/generated fixtures, with main's intervening commits separated from the fix. Not an exhaustive re-review of unchanged TypeId support or merged main changes. No build, type check, differential tests, quest context, or CI were executed; reported validation was not independently reproduced. This COMMENT is not merge approval.

Queue / Queue (job) failure at step Require the build to pass:
The new TypeId snapshots were generated with incremental compilation enabled. Disabling it reproduces the exact hashes reported in the queue log. Regenerated the three affected snapshot files with CARGO_INCREMENTAL=0; only 15 hash literals changed. No translator or runtime behavior changed. Use CARGO_INCREMENTAL=0 when checking or regenerating these snapshots. Validation passed: just check base, CARGO_INCREMENTAL=0 just ts moq, and CARGO_INCREMENTAL=0 just ts test (8 unit tests, 89 fixture tests, and 10 additional tests).
quest land watch: armed auto-merge on this pull request at eca1fa7, so it joins the back of the merge queue once its required checks pass, with the land fixer's fix (codex / Codex): Merged base and regenerated TypeId snapshots for non-incremental CI; passed just check base, CARGO_INCREMENTAL=0 just ts moq, and CARGO_INCREMENTAL=0 just ts test (107 tests)..

Problem
rust2-ts refused
Any::type_id,TypeId::of, and any use of aTypeId: a downcast checked the class of the value's type, but no JS value stood for a type, so a type no object holds had none, and a&mut dyn Anyof a value JS copies has a second class.Approach
As decided with the maintainer on 2026-11-04 (in the quest's Plan), a
TypeIdis rustc's 128-bittype_id_hashof the type, which std'sTypeIdholds at run time, as 32 lowercase hex digits (rs.TypeId, in the newts/runtime/rs/any.ts).TypeId::of::<T>(), a value'sAny::type_id, and aTypeIdconstant the compiler evaluated (read back through theGlobalAlloc::TypeIdits first word points into), or a reference to one (read from the memory it points into), lower to that string.PanicHookInfo::payloadhas thedyn Anyclasses' type (rs.hookPayloadis generic over them), so a hook can calltype_idon it.dyn Anyand a crate's own trait overAnyholdtype_idas a method, each class returning its type's as a constant.TypeIdtraits, notu128's:==is===;Ordis derived over the hash's pointer-sized words, lowest first (rs.typeIdCmp);Hashwrites oneu64, the high half (rs.typeIdHash);DebugwritesTypeId(0x…)(rs.fmtTypeIdDebug) in std'swrite!(f, "TypeId({:#034x})", ..)sequence:TypeId(,0x, awrite_charfor each leading zero, the digits, and), each its own write, stopping at the first that fails. It works as a hash and B-tree key and in derives.ts/fixtures/lang/dyns/src/ids.rs:TypeIds of many types, through type parameters, of values and of trait objects (borrowed,&mut, boxed,Rc, upcast), in derives, aHashMap, aHashSet, and aBTreeSet, a loggingHasher,Debug's shape, andDebuginto a capped, loggingfmt::Write(where it fails partway and the writes it makes). The bits are the crate's metadata's, so checks compare within a run rather than the exact bits.quest/m3/README.md,quest/m2/ts-model/README.md, andts/README.md's "Not yet", which now lists only what trait objects still refuse (a trait with a const parameter, an array, a pointer other than&,&mut,Box,Arc,Rc,Weak, orPin).quest/m3/ts-wasm-bindgen/spike.md, new on main, no longer links it.Impact
TypeIdtranslates asrs.TypeId;dyn Anyobjects gain atypeId$Anymember once a call dispatches to it. Runtime addsrs.TypeId,rs.typeIdCmp,rs.typeIdHash,rs.fmtTypeIdDebug.rs.hookPayloadis generic, returning its classes' type rather thanobject. No wire impact.objects::any_type_idcase is removed, since it now translates.Alternatives
Rejected in the quest's Plan with the maintainer: the type's path as a string (order and
Debugnot native's), and the class itself (still needs a value for order and hash, and a class for a type no object holds).Choices made without asking
TypeIdof a type that still has parameters lowers toundefined, since only an instance decides the type; the real translation is always monomorphic.rs.u128, so equality is===and a hash-map key needs no wrapper.Follow-ups
None.

Validation
just ci: passed on 339c7e1 (origin/main merged at f56859c). Merging main'srs.String(moq-dev/rust2#574) gavers.hookPayloadone type parameter per payload class, since aStringclass now holds anrs.Stringand astrclass a JS string; the snapshots were regenerated withUPDATE_EXPECT=1.&TypeIdconstant failed translation ("a pointer into memory translation can't name"), and a hook callingpayload.type_id()failedtsc(TS2322: Type 'object' is not assignable to type 'Any').ids.rsandhooked.rsnow cover both, and both match native.fmtTypeIdDebug(144 differences from native inlang::dyns) and passes with the fix.Review
