fix(httpx): decode the charset declared by the page, not only GBK, Big5 and EUC-KR - #2693
DecodeData only converted GBK, Big5 and EUC-KR bodies to UTF-8. A page that declares any other charset (iso-8859-1, windows-1252, Shift_JIS, KOI8-R, ...) was passed through as is, so -title and -json returned invalid UTF-8 for it.
After the existing cases, DecodeData now looks up the charset declared in the Content-Type header, or else in the page (<meta charset> / http-equiv), with golang.org/x/net/html/charset and converts the body. UTF-8 and unknown charsets are left alone. The raw body (RawData) is not touched, same as for GBK.
One existing test changed: TestDecodeDataBig5HeaderCharsetIsExact used charset=big5-hkscs and charset=big50 to check that Big5 is matched exactly and expected both to be left alone. big5-hkscs is a real charset that the lookup now decodes (to 中文), so the test expects that; big50 is not a charset and is still left alone.
Proof
Local server returning Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 and <title>caf\xe9</title>:
# dev
$ httpx -u http://127.0.0.1:18083/latin1 -title -silent | od -c
... [ c a f 351 ] <- a raw 0xe9 byte, invalid UTF-8
# this branch
$ httpx -u http://127.0.0.1:18083/latin1 -title -silent | od -c
... [ c a f 303 251 ] <- é in UTF-8
$ httpx -u http://127.0.0.1:18083/latin1 -json -silent | jq .title
"café"
A UTF-8 page (café 日本語 😀) is unchanged.
Tests: new TestDecodeDataDeclaredCharset (iso-8859-1, windows-1252, quoted and upper case, Shift_JIS, charset only in <meta>, in http-equiv, GBK still decoded, UTF-8 / no charset / unknown charset left alone) and TestExtractTitleDeclaredCharset. The new cases fail on dev (6 of 10, plus the title test) and pass here. go test ./common/httpx/ ./runner/ and go vet ./common/httpx/ pass.
I did not run the linter or the integration suite.
All checks passed (lint, unit/integration/regression tests etc.) with my changes
I have added tests that prove my fix is effective or that my feature works
I have added necessary documentation (if appropriate)
Summary by CodeRabbit
Bug Fixes
Improved decoding of content using recognized character encodings declared in HTTP headers or HTML metadata, including legacy encodings, to better preserve accented and non-Latin text in extracted titles.
Recognized header encodings take precedence over page metadata. If the header encoding is unknown or missing, the page metadata is checked; recognized UTF-8 headers are used as-is.
HTML meta charset declarations now support varied capitalization, spacing, and quoted or unquoted values. Content remains unchanged when no usable encoding is found.
…g5 and EUC-KR
DecodeData only converted GBK, Big5 and EUC-KR bodies to UTF-8. A page
that declares any other charset, such as iso-8859-1, windows-1252 or
Shift_JIS, was passed through as is, so -title and -json returned invalid
UTF-8 for it.
After the existing cases, look up the charset declared in the
Content-Type header or in the page with golang.org/x/net/html/charset and
convert the body. UTF-8 and unknown charsets are left alone.
big5-hkscs is now looked up as its own charset and decoded, so the Big5
exactness test expects that; big50 is still left alone.
Fixesprojectdiscovery#2692
projectdiscovery/httpx#2685: It changes Big5 handling in DecodeData and expects big5-hkscs to remain undecoded, while this PR expects it to decode.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #2692 requires non-UTF-8 bodies to be converted to UTF-8 when the charset is declared in the Content-Type header or in a page meta declaration, so that -title and -json return valid text. At the reviewed head, DecodeData in common/httpx/encodings.go looks up the header charset with charset.Lookup from golang.org/x/net/html/charset. A recognized non-UTF-8 charset decodes the body. A recognized utf-8 charset returns the body unchanged and stops the page lookup. An unknown header label falls through to the page. If no header charset applies, reContentType in common/httpx/title.go, now limited to <meta> tags, supplies the page charset, and decodeCharset converts it. GBK, Big5 and EUC-KR handling is unchanged. RawData is not modified. encodings_test.go covers iso-8859-1, windows-1252, quoted and upper-case labels, Shift_JIS, GBK, meta-only and http-equiv declarations, unquoted meta values, header precedence, unknown labels, and ExtractTitle on decoded ISO-8859-1 data. The tests were not run in this review. The PR description and PR summary say that a page declaration counts only when a Content-Type header is present. The code and TestDecodeDataDeclaredCharset (case 'charset only in a meta tag and no Content-Type') show that a meta declaration also applies without a header. That behavior matches the issue text, which names <meta> as a source, so it does not fail this requirement. The description text is stale.

Explanation
Changes from the merge base to the reviewed head are limited to common/httpx/encodings.go, common/httpx/title.go, common/httpx/encodings_test.go and the Big5 expectation in common/httpx/title_test.go. Each change supports issue #2692. encodings.go adds header and page charset decoding through charset.Lookup and helper functions charsetParam and decodeCharset. title.go narrows reContentType to charset attributes inside <meta> tags, which the issue's meta declaration case requires. The new tests verify the decoding and title extraction. The TestDecodeDataBig5HeaderCharsetIsExact update reflects that big5-hkscs is now a recognized label. No unrelated feature or production behavior appears in the diff. The behavior change for pages with a meta charset and no Content-Type header is within the issue scope and is covered by tests. The stale PR description on this point does not add out-of-scope code.

Inspect page metadata when Content-Type is absent.
If a response has no Content-Type header but declares <meta charset="iso-8859-1">, this guard skips the new page-decoding path entirely. Response.Data retains the encoded bytes, so title extraction still produces incorrect text. Move page-level detection outside the header-presence guard. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

…arsets
- An unknown charset in the Content-Type header no longer ends the
lookup: the page is looked at next. A header that names a charset
still wins over the page.
- The page charset pattern also matches unquoted values, such as
<meta charset=iso-8859-1>.
Pushed 3 changes for the review above (CodeRabbit):
Unknown header charset: it no longer ends the lookup. A label that is not a charset is ignored and the page is looked at next. A header that names a charset (including utf-8) still wins over the page. Tests: an unknown header charset falls back to the page, the header wins over the page.
Unquoted meta charset:reContentType now matches charset=iso-8859-1 with or without quotes. Test: unquoted charset in a meta tag.
Page charset without a Content-Type header: not changed. The existing GBK/Big5 page lookup already only runs when a Content-Type header is present, and this PR follows that. Happy to widen it if you want, but it changes what happens for every response without a header, so I kept it out of this fix.
go test ./common/httpx/ ./runner/ and go vet ./common/httpx/ pass.

The page charset pattern scanned the whole body, so text such as
charset=utf-8 in a script or in ordinary content before the real meta
declaration could be taken for it. Match the charset inside a <meta> tag
only, which covers <meta charset=...> and the http-equiv form.
Pushed for the second review: the page charset pattern now only matches inside a <meta ...> tag (<meta charset=...> and the http-equiv form), so charset=... text in a script or in the body can no longer take precedence over the real declaration. New test case: charset text outside a meta tag is ignored. go test ./common/httpx/ ./runner/ and go vet ./common/httpx/ pass.

If a headerless page declares <meta charset="big50">, this substring check selects Decodebig5. The decoder changes the body even though big50 is not a recognized charset. Use charset.Lookup to resolve the complete metadata label before selecting a decoder, and add a metadata near-miss case beside the existing header test. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
