  • cliff.toml: git-cliff groups the plain-sentence commits by first word (Add → Added, Fix → Fixed, Drop/Remove → Removed, the rest → Changed) and collapses dependency bumps, Dependabot's included, into one "Updated dependencies" line.
  • .github/scripts/changelog-draft.sh (mise run changelog): drafts the section for Cargo.toml's version from the commits since the last tag that touch src/, Cargo.toml or Cargo.lock, merges in the hand-written [Unreleased] entries by heading, and updates the link references. It refuses when the section already exists or there's nothing user-facing.
  • docs/RELEASE.md step 2 now runs it, then edits the draft for users.

Tested in a scratch worktree with #4 merged plus a fake Fix … commit: the result has ### Changed (the hand-written dependency line, no duplicate) and ### Fixed, and changelog-section.sh extracts it for the release notes.

mise run changelog drafts CHANGELOG.md's section for Cargo.toml's version
from the commits since the last tag that touch src/, Cargo.toml or
Cargo.lock. Commits are grouped by first word, dependency bumps collapse
into one line, hand-written [Unreleased] entries are merged in, and the
link references follow. The release checklist edits the draft.
