Hi there, I'm Andrea Vair Piova ๐Ÿ‘‹

LinkedIn Email

Master's student in Sustainable Nuclear Energy at Politecnico di Torino, passionate about the practical challenges of nuclear fusion and Gen-IV fission reactors.

Currently focusing on the tritium fuel cycle in magnetic confinement fusion, with particular emphasis on dynamic modeling, fuel throughput, and tritium self-sufficiency. I strongly believe advanced nuclear technologies will play an essential role alongside renewables in decarbonizing hard-to-abate industrial sectors.

๐Ÿš€ Academic projects

  • Topics: Simulink MATLAB Tritium Modeling Vacuum Cryopumping Tokamak
  • Dynamic lumped-parameter simulation of a closed tritium fuel cycle for a $500\text{ MW}_{\text{th}}$ compact tokamak. Sized primary cryopumps under LFL flammability limits and determined startup inventory ($1.45\text{ kg}$) and required TBR ($1.09$) for a 2-year doubling time.
  • Topics: PROCESS Python Superconducting Magnets Systems Engineering LCOE
  • Parametric design and economic analysis of a fusion reactor using the UKAEA PROCESS systems code. Evaluated electromagnetic/structural trade-offs in $\text{Nb}_3\text{Sn}$ toroidal field coils, conducting 1D and 2D parameter sweeps and comparing geometric vs. LCOE optimization figures of merit.
  • Topics: MATLAB Reactor Physics ENDF/B-VIII.0 BSc Thesis Mo-99
  • Bachelor's thesis research project: neutronic criticality design and fuel cycle burnup modeling of a LEU-fueled cylindrical aqueous homogeneous reactor for medical molybdenum-99 production.
