docs: select Cycle 8 controller improvement DAG

User problem and evidence

Cycle 8's public-source sweep found two distinct Linux /dev/uinput startup/access cases and adjacent examples of callers needing configurable semantic action bindings. The source dates, links, workarounds, confidence, coverage gaps, repository fit, and deferred candidates are recorded in research gate #57 and summarized in the roadmap.

These are external reports, not OpenController incidents or prevalence estimates. Reddit and some source/search endpoints returned 403; HN and Steam search were sparse.

Decision and scope

• Select Explain persistent /dev/uinput permission failures in Linux doctor/setup guidance #59 for doctor/setup guidance about persistent permission denial; commands remain user-reviewed.
• Select Show consumers how to configure semantic action-map bindings #61 for a runnable dry-run example of caller-owned inputs mapped onto semantic actions; add no input capture or UI.
• Defer Add an opt-in expiry lease for persistent controller state #60 pending stronger SDK-specific evidence because timer, queue, cleanup, and error-ordering semantics carry meaningful risk.
• Defer Revisit Windows VHF health diagnostics after a supported driver test path exists #62 until a maintained Windows driver and test path have named ownership.

The three selected lanes own disjoint implementation files. They can run in parallel after this decision gate closes; no artificial PR stack is needed. Native GitHub issue dependency edges make #57 the prerequisite of #58, #59, and #61.

Acceptance

• Gate Cycle 8 research gate: build an evidence-backed controller improvement DAG #57 records dated research, limitations, repository audit, rankings, selected issues, and deferrals.
