chore(mutation-gate): use plugin-side related-test discovery for the extension package - #2211
Use plugin-side vitest related-test discovery for the extension package in scripts/stryker-diff.mjs (vitestRelated: true / discoverRelatedTests: false), instead of an explicit STRYKER_TEST_FILES list.
Why
stryker-js 10.0.0 plans static mutants with runtime activation when an explicit test-file list is supplied (stryker-mutator/stryker-js#6144, #6209). The vitest plugin can only apply that activation after top-level code has run, which produces false Survived results on changed-code mutation runs. Plugin-side discovery avoids the explicit list and the mis-activation.
This was previously mixed into #1522 (DTE-2 thinking effort). It is unrelated to that feature and is extracted here so it can be reviewed, reverted, or landed on its own once the upstream planner fix lands.
Verification
node --test scripts/stryker-diff.test.mjs: 44 tests, 0 failures (the manifest expectation for the extension package was updated alongside the config).
…extension package
stryker-js 10.0.0 mis-activates static mutants when an explicit STRYKER_TEST_FILES list is supplied (stryker-mutator/stryker-js#6144, #6209), producing false Survived results. Use the vitest plugin related-test discovery for the extension package and update the manifest expectation. Extracted from Zoo-Code-Org#1522 per review so it can be reverted when the upstream fix lands. stryker-diff tests 44 passed.
Updated how automated tests select related tests for extension packages.
No user-facing changes are included in this release.
The extension package’s Stryker configuration now enables Vitest-related test selection and disables explicit related-test discovery. The buildManifest test expects these settings.

Summary
Configure and verify extension test discovery scripts/stryker-diff.mjs, scripts/stryker-diff.test.mjs
The extension configuration enables vitestRelated and disables discoverRelatedTests. The test assertions expect these values.
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#2060 — Concerns extension mutation-gate runs and changes to scripts/stryker-diff.mjs; this PR changes related-test discovery for that gate.
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#2201 — Concerns classifying gemini.ts mutants with the extension mutation gate; this PR changes the gate’s test discovery.
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#2050 — Defines the changed-code mutation gate and identifies scripts/stryker-diff.mjs; this PR changes the gate’s test discovery.
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#2147 — Requires rerunning the extension mutation gate; this PR changes the related-test discovery used by the gate.

The change is mergeable, but a focused mutation fixture would provide confidence that the false-survivor regression is actually prevented.

Full details: Regression Evidence
Explanation
The changed extension behavior has focused unit coverage. PACKAGE_CONFIGS now sets vitestRelated: true and discoverRelatedTests: false; the buildManifest test asserts both values on the generated extension entry. Existing shouldUseVitestRelated tests cover the explicit-list, enabled, disabled, and default branches. No UI change is present.
Full details: Security Boundaries
Explanation
PASS: The changed path only changes PACKAGE_CONFIGS.extension from explicit related-test discovery to Vitest plugin-side discovery (scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:56-67) and updates its test expectation. The execution path passes fixed configuration values to Stryker (scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:418-433); it does not expose secrets or PII, execute newly trusted input, or bypass approval or allowlist controls.
Full details: Persistence Integrity
Explanation
No changed persistence path exists. The PR changes only PACKAGE_CONFIGS flags for the extension package and matching manifest assertions. buildManifest copies these flags into the in-memory package entry; runManifest skips explicit test-file discovery when discoverRelatedTests is false, and runStryker passes the related-test setting to Stryker. No changed write, await, atomicity, rollback, or partial-failure behavior is present.
Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
Explanation
PASS. The pull request changes only PACKAGE_CONFIGS flags for the extension package and the matching manifest assertions. The changed path sets vitestRelated: true and discoverRelatedTests: false; runManifest therefore skips the explicit discoverRelatedTestFiles subprocess and passes the configuration to Stryker. No changed listener, watcher, provider, timer, task, or cancellation/disposal path can leak a resource or duplicate work.

Review follow-up: the vitest related-test discovery flip belongs to a separate chore PR (Zoo-Code-Org#2211) so it can be reverted independently when the upstream stryker-js fix lands; this PR restores scripts/stryker-diff.mjs to main.

Disposition: the flag flip is covered by the manifest test; a nested Stryker run belongs to mutation-diff (evidence)
This PR is deliberately a config flip (extension package: vitestRelated: true / discoverRelatedTests: false) extracted from #1522. The request asks for a focused Stryker/Vitest fixture that runs plugin-side discovery and asserts a killable static mutant is not Survived.
Why it is not added here:
Such a fixture needs a real nested @stryker-mutator/core run (Stryker 10 + the vitest runner) against a throwaway project. That is a second mutation run inside the unit CI, takes minutes and is flaky by nature — the repository's own mutation protocol keeps Stryker runs in the dedicated mutation-diff workflow (scripts/stryker-diff.mjs), which is exactly where this config is consumed and where the real behaviour is exercised on every PR.
The manifest test added in this PR pins the decision the config change encodes (extension.vitestRelated === true, extension.discoverRelatedTests === false), so a revert to the explicit-test-file discovery fails fast.
If maintainers want a regression harness for the upstream fix, the right place is a separate mutation-diff self-test (or the upstream repo) once the planner fix lands and this flip is reverted. Keeping this PR a clean, revertible chore.
