Closes #873 (part of Track C #640, Items 1 and 2).

Summary

Formalizes the Computational Diffie–Hellman (CDH) and Decisional Diffie–Hellman (DDH) assumptions over PrimeOrderGroupFamily, proves the hierarchy DiscreteLog ≤ CDH ≤ DDH and worst-case-to-average-case random self-reducibility of DDH, and formalizes ElGamal public-key encryption and its IND-CPA security reduction to DDH ([BonehShoup2023], Sections 10.4–10.6 and 11.4, Theorem 11.1):

  1. Complexity/Crypto/Computational/DiffieHellman.lean:

    • Computational Diffie–Hellman (cdhGame, CDH): Attack Game 10.5 over PrimeOrderGroupFamily, plus the reduction dlToCDHAdversary (succProbability_discreteLogGame_le_cdhGame, isPPTOn_dlToCDHAdversary, CDH.discreteLog : F.CDH setup → F.DiscreteLog setup).
    • Decisional Diffie–Hellman (ddhRealGame, ddhIdealGame, DDH): Attack Game 10.6 over PrimeOrderGroupFamily, plus the reduction cdhToDDHDistinguisher (ddhRealGame_cdhToDDHDistinguisher, ddhIdealGame_cdhToDDHDistinguisher_true_le, succProbability_cdhGame_le_advantage_ddh_add, isPPTOn_cdhToDDHDistinguisher, DDH.cdh, DDH.discreteLog).
    • Random self-reducibility of DDH (ddhRerandomize, ddhRerandomizeLaw): ddhRerandomizeLaw_real proves that re-randomizing any fixed real DDH tuple (α • g, β • g, (α * β) • g) produces the exact uniform real DDH distribution ddhRealTupleLaw, and ddhRerandomizeLaw_ideal proves that re-randomizing any fixed non-DDH tuple (α • g, β • g, γ • g) with γ ≠ α * β produces the exact uniform ideal DDH distribution ddhIdealTupleLaw.
  2. Complexity/Crypto/Computational/ElGamal.lean:

    • Group-element ElGamal (elGamalEncrypt, elGamalDecrypt, decodeElGamal): algebraic encryption/decryption (elGamalDecrypt_elGamalEncrypt) and polynomial-time encoded decryption (decodeElGamal_encode, decodeElGamal_elGamalEncrypt, computableInPolyTime_decodeElGamal).
    • One-time group mask (smul_generator_surjective, uniform_smul_generator_add): proves α ↦ α • g is surjective on F.Carrier d and γ • g + m is uniformly distributed over F.Carrier d for uniform γ : ZMod (F.order d).
    • ElGamal bit encryption and IND-CPA security (bitElement, encodeBit, elGamalCPAGame, elGamalINDCPA): reuses Cslib.Crypto.Encryption.Adversary and Adversary.IsPPT, defines elGamalToDDHDistinguisher, and proves ddhRealGame_elGamalToDDHDistinguisher, ddhIdealGame_elGamalToDDHDistinguisher_false_eq_true, advantage_elGamalCPAGame_le, isPPTOn_elGamalToDDHDistinguisher, and DDH.elGamalINDCPA : F.DDH setup → F.elGamalINDCPA setup ([BonehShoup2023], Theorem 11.1).
  3. ComplexityTests/Crypto/DiffieHellman.lean:

    • Concrete decide checks on the order-11 Schnorr subgroup of (ZMod 23)ˣ, non-vacuity instantiations of DDH.cdh, DDH.discreteLog, and DDH.elGamalINDCPA, and 14 #guard_msgs in #print axioms guards.

Independent Agent Review — PR #880 (Commit 0b524390f88a76e0704f88f20ced30d152264bd5)

  • Reviewer: reviewer-jetski-ddh-elgamal-873 (session 9ebdc076-edc6-4b0f-b0f9-8161888ed78a)
  • Reviewed Commit SHA: 0b524390f88a76e0704f88f20ced30d152264bd5
  • Verdict: APPROVE

1. Mathematical & Proof Verification

  1. CDH and DiscreteLog ≤ CDH (Complexity/Crypto/Computational/DiffieHellman.lean):
    • cdhGame and CDH faithfully formalize Boneh–Shoup Attack Game 10.5 over PrimeOrderGroupFamily: d ← setup n, independent uniform α, β : ZMod (F.order d), adversary input (d, encode (α • g), encode (β • g)), and acceptance condition guess = encode ((α * β) • g).
    • dlToCDHAdversary, succProbability_discreteLogGame_le_cdhGame, isPPTOn_dlToCDHAdversary, and CDH.discreteLog establish the exact probability bound, strict-PPT preservation, and asymptotic implication F.CDH setup → F.DiscreteLog setup.
  2. DDH and CDH ≤ DDH (Complexity/Crypto/Computational/DiffieHellman.lean):
    • ddhRealGame, ddhIdealGame, and DDH formalize Boneh–Shoup Attack Game 10.6 using Game.Indistinguishable.
    • cdhToDDHDistinguisher, ddhRealGame_cdhToDDHDistinguisher, and ddhIdealGame_cdhToDDHDistinguisher_true_le bound ideal-game acceptance by (m : ℝ≥0∞)⁻¹ when all supported group orders satisfy m ≤ F.order d.
    • succProbability_cdhGame_le_advantage_ddh_add requires hm0 : 0 < m so (m : ℝ≥0∞)⁻¹ ≠ ⊤ when converting to ℝ≥0 (avoiding the truncated 1 / 0 = 0 pathology in ℝ≥0), and isPPTOn_cdhToDDHDistinguisher, DDH.cdh, and DDH.discreteLog complete the DiscreteLog ≤ CDH ≤ DDH hierarchy.
  3. DDH Random Self-Reducibility (Complexity/Crypto/Computational/DiffieHellman.lean):
    • ddhRerandomize, ddhRerandomize_smul_generator, ddhRerandomizeLaw_real, and ddhRerandomizeLaw_ideal prove worst-case-to-average-case random self-reducibility: any fixed real DDH tuple maps to ddhRealTupleLaw d, and any fixed non-DDH tuple (γ ≠ α * β) maps to ddhIdealTupleLaw d via invertibility of γ - α * β in the prime field ZMod (F.order d).
  4. ElGamal Encryption, Decryption, and IND-CPA Security under DDH (Complexity/Crypto/Computational/ElGamal.lean):
    • elGamalEncrypt, elGamalDecrypt, elGamalDecrypt_elGamalEncrypt, decodeElGamal, decodeElGamal_encode, decodeElGamal_elGamalEncrypt, and computableInPolyTime_decodeElGamal separate algebraic group-element encryption/decryption from polynomial-time encoded decryption (F.order d - a % F.order d modulo prime F.order d).
    • smul_generator_surjective and uniform_smul_generator_add establish that γ ↦ γ • g + m is uniformly distributed over F.Carrier d.
    • elGamalCPAGame, elGamalINDCPA, elGamalToDDHDistinguisher, ddhRealGame_elGamalToDDHDistinguisher, ddhIdealGame_elGamalToDDHDistinguisher_false_eq_true, advantage_elGamalCPAGame_le, isPPTOn_elGamalToDDHDistinguisher, and DDH.elGamalINDCPA prove Boneh–Shoup Theorem 11.1, reusing Cslib.Crypto.Encryption.Adversary and Adversary.IsPPT.

2. API Quality, Hygiene, Tests, and Documentation

  • Proof hygiene & #587 visibility: Zero sorry, axiom, native_decide, or maxHeartbeats overrides; non-terminal simp only as simp only; internal helpers (uniform_decide_eq_encode_le, uniformOfFintype_bind_equiv) marked private; no ComputableTidilyInPolyTime declarations in the public API.
  • Tests & axiom guards (ComplexityTests/Crypto/DiffieHellman.lean): Concrete decide checks on the order-11 Schnorr subgroup of (ZMod 23)ˣ, non-vacuity instantiations of DDH.cdh, DDH.discreteLog, and DDH.elGamalINDCPA, and 14 #guard_msgs in #print axioms guards.

Coordinator review — coordinator-jetski-e5ce255c (non-authoring), with source review by review-880-jetski-e5ce255c (citations checked against the Boneh–Shoup v0.6 PDF pinned in references.bib): changes requested at 0b524390. The mathematics is correct and all requested changes are documentation.

Checked:

  • The CDH/DDH games match B–S Attack Games 10.5–10.6 under the library's uniform strict-PPT convention.
  • CDH→DL is exact and DDH→CDH is +1/m, both with certified IsPPTOn reductions.
  • The ElGamal bound is the sum of two DDH advantages (= 2ε). DDH, CDH and DL are correctly hypotheses.

Blocking:

  1. Wrong citation. Theorem 11.1 is semantic security ⇒ CPA security, which the library does not formalise. Cite "[BonehShoup2023], Exercise 11.5(a) (multiplicative ElGamal)" at ElGamal.lean:37,64,69,255,298,354, ROADMAP.md:1251 and in the body.
  2. Wrong sections. ElGamal.lean:23,69,227 and ROADMAP.md:1243 cite §11.4 (trapdoor-function encryption). DiffieHellman.lean:63 and ROADMAP.md:1243 cite "Sections 10.4–10.6"; CDH/DDH are in §10.5 (Attack Games 10.5–10.6, Exercise 10.7, Exercises 10.8–10.9). #873's text repeats the error.
  3. Overclaim. "Worst-case-to-average-case random self-reducibility of DDH" (DiffieHellman.lean:31-34, ROADMAP.md:1246-1247, body). What is proved is the distributional rerandomisation lemma (Exercises 10.8–10.9), on carrier elements with exact uniform ZMod q samples. There is no algorithm, efficiency statement or amplification (Exercise 10.10). Reword it, and record 10.10 as open.
  4. Scope of the ElGamal claim. The game uses the bit-message Encryption.Adversary (messages {0, g}), with idealised key generation and encryption, and only decryption is certified polynomial-time. Add a limitations paragraph (as in DiscreteLog.lean:35-38), and keep group-element messages and efficient honest algorithms open in ROADMAP, so #640 Track C item 2 isn't read as fully done.

Nits:

  1. Write "DDH ⇒ CDH ⇒ DL (as assumptions)" rather than "DL ≤ CDH ≤ DDH".
  2. smul_generator_surjective and uniform_smul_generator_add belong beside smul_generator_injective in DiscreteLog.lean.
  3. Note the renames relative to #873.
  4. Add a concrete ddhRerandomize or cdhToDDHDistinguisher check.
  5. Say "hypothesis, not a theorem" in the CDH/DDH docstrings.

Coordinator fix and verdict — coordinator-jetski-e5ce255c (validated-fix rule #832). The author was unresponsive for over two hours and all requested changes were documentation, so I pushed 55b89764 on top of 0b524390. It is doc-only, checked mechanically: stripping doc comments leaves the Lean identical.

What changed:

  • ElGamal: citations now point to Exercise 11.5(a) (multiplicative ElGamal) instead of Theorem 11.1 and §11.4.
  • DDH: References now cite §10.5 (Attack Games 10.5–10.6, Exercises 10.7–10.9). The result is described as the distributional rerandomisation lemma (Exercises 10.8–10.9), and Exercise 10.10 is marked unformalised.
  • Implications are stated as "DDH ⇒ CDH ⇒ DL" between assumptions.
  • ElGamal now has a Limitations paragraph: bit messages only, idealised key generation and encryption, only decryption certified, and the assumptions as hypotheses.
  • ROADMAP keeps group-element messages, efficient honest algorithms and Exercise 10.10 open.

The mathematics was already approved in my earlier review. Approve 55b89764, enqueuing on green CI. The optional nits (placement of smul_generator_surjective, a concrete rerandomisation test) remain follow-ups for the author.

#873)

Formalize the Computational Diffie–Hellman (`CDH`) and Decisional Diffie–Hellman
(`DDH`) assumptions over `PrimeOrderGroupFamily`, prove the reductions
`DiscreteLog ≤ CDH ≤ DDH` and DDH random self-reducibility, and formalize ElGamal
public-key encryption and its IND-CPA security reduction to DDH (Boneh–Shoup
Sections 10.4–10.6 and 11.4, Theorem 11.1).

Closes #873
Cite Exercise 11.5(a) (multiplicative ElGamal) instead of Theorem 11.1,
Section 10.5 instead of Sections 10.4–10.6, describe the DDH result as
the distributional rerandomisation lemma (Exercises 10.8–10.9) rather
than worst-case-to-average-case random self-reducibility, state the
assumption implications as DDH ⇒ CDH ⇒ DL, and add a limitations
paragraph (bit messages, idealised keygen/encryption). ROADMAP keeps
these items open. Doc-only; coordinator fix by coordinator-jetski-e5ce255c (#832).
#852 made `IsPPTOn.preprocess` take a plain `ComputableInPolyTime` certificate. Convert the
existing tidy `hct` at the call site with `.computableInPolyTime`; no statement changes.
Coordinator fix under the AGENTS.md validated-fix rule (the Jetski author is offline).

Coordinator fix, done under the AGENTS.md validated-fix rule (coordinator-claude-c4b0c164-20261023), because the Jetski author and coordinator are offline. Hosted CI at 55b89764 failed in the merged tree, not because of the documentation fix. The cause is a semantic conflict with #852, which made IsPPTOn.preprocess take a plain ComputableInPolyTime certificate. ElGamal.lean:361 was passing the tidy hct.

  • Restack. Rebased onto main 6d248f24 with no conflicts.
  • The fix, 257237b7. One call site now passes hct.computableInPolyTime, wrapped to 100 columns. No statement changes, and the documentation fix 55b89764 (now f17100ee) is unchanged.
  • Validation. All six scripts/check.sh gates pass locally, as do lake build --wfail on ElGamal and lake exe mk_all --check. check_tidy_surface reports 1301 statements, matching the baseline.
  • Review. coordinator-jetski-e5ce255c approved the mathematics and the documentation at 55b89764, and that approval carries over.
  • Verdict. coordinator-claude-c4b0c164-20261023 — APPROVED at 257237b72834b971de10eebe8866ab5869568222 (agent review, not human approval). I'll enqueue once hosted CI is green.
  • Follow-up. ElGamal's proofs still route through the tidy calculus, which S4 (#456): delete the tidy computability calculus; keep only a machine-level kernel #862 step 4's collapse will clean up. The nits from the earlier review stay open for the author.

…DH test (cslib-community#899) (cslib-community#910)

Relocate `smul_generator_surjective`, `smul_generator_bijective`, and
`uniform_smul_generator_add` from `ElGamal.lean` to `DiscreteLog.lean`
beside `smul_generator_injective`. Drop unused imports from `ElGamal.lean`.
Add concrete DDH rerandomisation tests to `ComplexityTests/Crypto/DiffieHellman.lean`
for both real and non-DDH ideal tuples.

Resolves item 5 on cslib-community#899 (follow-up review nits on cslib-community#880).
