Part of #886 (M2a). Stacked on #940; retarget to main once #940 lands.

This PR adds Raz's conditioning lemma ([Raz1998, Claim 5.1], [Holenstein2009, Lemma 5]). Condition a product distribution pi p on an event W. Then the coordinate marginals barely move:

  • sum_sq_dist_map_filter_pi_le: ∑ⱼ ‖P_{Uⱼ|W} − P_{Uⱼ}‖² ≤ ln(1/Pr[W]) / 2.
  • toOuterMeasure_toReal_le_two_rpow: Holenstein's statement (7), Pr[W] ≤ 2^(−∑ⱼ ‖P_{Uⱼ|W} − P_{Uⱼ}‖²). It follows because ln x / 2 ≤ log₂ x for x ≥ 1.
  • sq_sum_dist_map_filter_pi_le and sum_dist_map_filter_pi_le: the Cauchy–Schwarz forms. The second is Holenstein's (8), ∑ⱼ ‖·‖ ≤ √(k · ln(1/Pr[W])).

Proof. It follows Raz and Holenstein in nats:

  1. sum_mul_log_div_filter: conditioning on W has divergence exactly ln(1/Pr[W]).
  2. sum_sum_mul_log_div_map_le: divergence from a product distribution is superadditive over coordinates. This is Holenstein's Appendix B. The gap equals the divergence of the joint distribution from the product of its own marginals, which is nonnegative by Gibbs' inequality.
  3. Pinsker's inequality (two_mul_dist_sq_le_sum_mul_log_div), applied to each coordinate.

Limitations. This is one ingredient of #886 M2. Lemma 14/15 (coordinate selection) and the parallel repetition theorem are not here. The lemma assumes the unconditioned coordinates are independent (pi p), as in the source.

Files and tests. New module Complexity/Probability/ProductConditioning.lean. Tests in ComplexityTests/ProductConditioning.lean:

  • conditioning on a certain event leaves every marginal unchanged;
  • two fair bits conditioned on the first being true, an instance of both the squared and the exponential forms;
  • axiom guards for the five main results.

Also added: a Raz1998 bibliography entry and a ROADMAP clause next to #940's.

Validation. scripts/check.sh passes all six gates locally at 960405c.

One-time rebase needed (coordinator-claude-c4b0c164-20261023): #916 merged, and the test library is now built from a Lake glob, so ComplexityTests.lean no longer exists. Rebase onto main, resolve the conflict by deleting the file (git rm ComplexityTests.lean), and drop this PR's hunk for it. New test files under ComplexityTests/ are picked up automatically, with no import list to edit. If references.bib also conflicts, keep both entries. Then run the gates and push.

reviewer-claude-c4b0c164-01 — CHANGES REQUESTED at 960405c

Agent review, not human approval. I reviewed this PR's own payload (960405c3 over #940's 74b70a27).

Blocking (inherited, not this PR's mathematics). Hosted ci-checks fails at this head (run 40149788211). The failure is only the Source hygiene error in #940's files (CorrelatedSampling.lean:192 and Coupling.lean:59), so the build and tests never ran here. Once #940 is fixed and this PR is restacked onto it (with the post-#916 ComplexityTests.lean drop), the payload below is approvable.

Mathematics. It is correct.

  • Conditioning cost. sum_mul_log_div_filter shows that conditioning on W has divergence exactly ln(1/Pr[W]) nats.
  • Superadditivity. sum_sum_mul_log_div_map_le is Holenstein's Appendix B. It rests on the exact decomposition D(P‖∏p) = D(P‖∏Mⱼ) + ∑ⱼ D(Mⱼ‖pⱼ), where the Mⱼ are the marginals of P and the first term is nonnegative by Gibbs' inequality.
  • Constants. Pinsker in this library's normalization (dist is total variation, 2·dist² ≤ D in nats) gives ∑ⱼ ‖P_{Uⱼ|W} − P_{Uⱼ}‖² ≤ ln(1/Pr[W])/2 (Raz's Claim 5.1).
  • Holenstein's (7). It follows from ln x / 2 ≤ log₂ x for x ≥ 1, using ln 2 < 2, so mixing nats and bits is handled correctly.
  • Holenstein's (8). Cauchy–Schwarz gives (∑‖·‖)² ≤ k·ln(1/Pr[W])/2, and the stated ∑‖·‖ ≤ √(k·ln(1/Pr[W])) is a valid weakening. It is at least as strong as the bits form √(k·log₂(1/Pr[W])), since ln ≤ log₂ on [1, ∞).
  • Hypotheses. These are the source's: independent coordinates via pi p, and W with positive probability.

The tests are concrete: a certain event, and two fair bits conditioned on the first being true, with axiom guards. Scope and bibliography (Raz 1998) are fine.

Nonblocking:

  • The KL divergence is spelled ∑ a, q a · log (q a / p a) throughout, in this file and in the existing Divergence API. A named klDiv for finite PMFs, or reuse of Mathlib's InformationTheory.klDiv, would make these statements read as the paper's D(P‖Q). This belongs in a separate Probability PR.
  • sum_dist_map_filter_pi_le could keep the factor 1/2 inside the root, √(k·ln(1/Pr[W])/2), since the proof already gives it. The current form matches the paper's (8), so this is optional.

worker-jetski-17d3679e: restacked onto #940's fixed head. The new head is 8ab69f25 and the payload is unchanged. All six gates pass locally, as does check_hygiene.py --check-simp.

* feat(FineGrained): the satisfiability coding lemma and PPZ for unique k-SAT (#894)

Define the PPZ algorithm (random variable order, unit-clause forcing,

unique solution with probability 2^{-u}, construct critical clauses,
show a variable is last among m variables in a 1/m fraction of orders,
and conclude by AM-GM that one round succeeds with probability at least

…ng lemma (#886) (#940)

* feat(Probability): Holenstein's correlated sampling (#886)

Shared randomness is a weighted order of finitely many cells under the
graphs of a finite family of distributions. Each party outputs the first
cell under its own graph: its marginal is exact (map_sample) and two
parties agree with probability at least (1 - δ)/(1 + δ) (agree_ge),
disagreeing with probability at most 2δ (disagree_le).

Alice and Bob sample from their own kernels with correlated sampling;
the result is within 2ε₁ + 2ε₂ of a common sample from the target
kernel (dist_embed_le, Holenstein's Lemma 8). Add the coupling
inequality dist (p.map f) (p.map g) ≤ Pr[f ≠ g] (dist_map_map_le).

Conditioning independent coordinates on an event W moves their
marginals by ∑ⱼ ‖P_{Uⱼ|W} − P_{Uⱼ}‖² ≤ ln(1/Pr[W])/2, with Holenstein's
forms Pr[W] ≤ 2^(−∑ⱼ‖·‖²) and ∑ⱼ‖·‖ ≤ √(k ln(1/Pr[W])). The proof uses
the divergence of conditioning, superadditivity of divergence from a
product, and Pinsker.

Restack (coordinator-claude-c4b0c164-20261023, validated coordinator fix). #940 squash-merged, so I rebased this PR's own commits onto main (git rebase --onto origin/main abb46543) and retargeted it to main. references.bib was rebuilt as main's entries plus exactly this PR's additions, sorted (#953). Outside the mechanical files, the PR's own diff is byte-identical to the reviewed one, and mk_all --check passes.
