Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Reports now display their content while charts and graphs continue loading, then enhance those widgets as they become available.
    • Visualization data can be reused from browser storage on later visits.
  • Improvements
    • Report pages reserve space for content while loading, helping reduce layout shifts.
    • 3D graph visualizations use a shared Three.js build.

Walkthrough

Report pages now render report markup without waiting for widgets. Charts and graphs enhance when ready. The change also adds widget bridges, versioned vizdom WASM caching, viewport-height layout reservation, and tests for rendering, caching, layout shifts, and 3D graph display.

Changes: Report rendering and widget enhancement

Layer / File(s) Summary
Report shell and initial rendering
app/[username]/[repository]/..., app/globals.css, components/report-view.jsx, tests/e2e/performance.spec.js, AGENTS.md
Report pages add preconnect hints and place loading status inside a viewport-height report container. ReportView fetches the template and report JSON concurrently. Browser tests cover rendering while widgets are pending and layout shifts.
Widget bridges and WASM caching
components/report-view.jsx, lib/widget-loader.js, public/widgets/*, tests/e2e/performance.spec.js, README.md, AGENTS.md
The force-graph bridge loads pinned graph and sprite-label packages using a shared Three.js version. The vizdom bridge checks versioned Cache Storage before fetching WASM. Browser tests cover caching and 3D widget loading and rendering.
Readiness-gated enhancement
components/report-view.jsx, lib/report-view.js, tests/integration/report-view*.jsx, tests/unit/report-view.test.js, AGENTS.md
ReportView no longer waits for a widget-settle timer. It enhances ready widgets and registers callbacks for widgets that become ready later. Tests cover progressive enhancement, stale callbacks, chart teardown, and enhancement options.

Merge Risk: Low · previous review b382d

This change renders reports before optional widgets load, which improves page load. Remaining issues are minor: pending widget callbacks are not released when a report changes while a widget host is unavailable, and the first-visit graph initialization waits on a cache write. Neither blocks merging, but both are cheap to fix.

Release pending widget callbacks when the report effect is cleaned up.

onWidgetReady keeps each callback in pendingCallbacks until its widget is marked ready. Cleanup sets cancelled, but the stored closure still references enhance and the report payload it captured. If a widget never becomes ready, each payload change adds another retained closure. Retention continues until the page is unloaded. A widget may stay unready when its script fails to load, because the only marking path in the inspected code is the onLoad handler.

Return an unsubscribe function from onWidgetReady and call it during cleanup.

lib/widget-loader.js:

 export function onWidgetReady(name, callback) {
   installGlobalBridge();
   if (readyWidgets.has(name)) {
     callback();

+    return () => {};
   }

   callbacks.push(callback);
   pendingCallbacks.set(name, callbacks);
+  return () => {
+    const current = pendingCallbacks.get(name);
+    if (!current) return;
+    const remaining = current.filter(entry => entry !== callback);
+    if (remaining.length === 0) pendingCallbacks.delete(name);
+    else pendingCallbacks.set(name, remaining);
+  };
 }

components/report-view.jsx:

+    const unsubscribers = [];
     const whenReady = (name, enhance) => {
       if (isWidgetReady(name)) return;
-      onWidgetReady(name, () => {

         }
       });
+      unsubscribers.push(unsubscribe);
     };
     return () => {
       cancelled = true;
+      unsubscribers.forEach(unsubscribe => unsubscribe());
     };

Do not wait for the cache write before initializing vizdom.

On a cache miss, await cache.put(...) delays the response returned to the WASM initializer until the approximately 4.8 MB binary is stored. Start the best-effort cache write without awaiting it, and handle its rejection. The report can then initialize graphs while storage continues. Cache API guidance uses this pattern to avoid delaying the response. (developer.mozilla.org)
