Feat (QB): Add new select all tool in query builder results - #8710
Verify that, initially, no rows should be selected.
The heading should show 0 of N result rows selected.
Selection-scoped actions should not interpret an empty selection as “all.”
Select individual checkboxes.
Checkbox state and selected count should agree.
Shift-select a range of loaded rows.
The intended range should be selected without clearing unrelated selections.
Click Select All.
All matching records should be selected, including results not yet loaded.
Scroll into additional pages: their checkboxes should remain selected.
Uncheck a few records after Select All.
Those records should stay excluded when scrolling away and back.
The selected count should decrease accordingly.
Click Deselect All.
All checkboxes should clear, including subsequently loaded rows.
The selected count should return to zero.
Browse in Forms
Repeat these checks with:
A few individually selected records.
Select All.
Select All with several records excluded.
For each:
Open Browse in Forms.
Only selected records should be available.
The displayed count should match the selected result count.
Navigate forward and backward, including beyond the first 40 results.
Records should load correctly without blanks, repeated pages, or jumps.
Deselect All.
Browse in Forms should be disabled.
Inline/split form view
Enable split view.
Change the selection while the form pane is visible.
The pane should display only the new selection and reset to its first result.
Navigate beyond the first page.
Missing pages should load on demand.
Delete a disposable record, including one fetched beyond the table’s initially loaded rows.
The table, counts, and form navigation should remain consistent.
Test horizontal/vertical layouts and a narrow browser window.
Forms, navigation, and toolbar controls should remain usable without overlap.
Performance and loading behavior
Use the large query with Network recording enabled.
Click Select All, then Deselect All. Neither action downloads every matching ID or every result page.
Selecting/excluding individual records may trigger a count request, but must not enumerate the complete result set.
Open Browse in Forms. Result fetching is bounded to 40-row pages, with additional pages requested as navigation requires.
Data Views and embedded pickers reuse loaded rows instead of issuing a separate selection query.
Compare selection-control responsiveness on small and large queries. Record timings; flag any delay that grows with total result count.
With network throttling enabled, loading feedback remains understandable and stale records do not flash into view.
Confirm no new console errors, layout overflow, inaccessible controls, or keyboard-focus traps.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Select or exclude records across an entire query, including records not currently loaded. Use query-wide selections for CSV, KML, and web portal exports, and record-set creation.
Browse forms for selected query results and view selected records on a map.
See selection totals and refreshed results when selected records are deleted.
Limitations
Query-wide selection is unavailable for distinct, grouped, or count-only queries. Maps are unavailable when the selection exceeds the supported limit.
Apply bounded record selections before pagination and reuse them for CSV/KML exports and record-set creation. Validate selection payloads and respect collection permissions.

Verify include/exclude filtering before pagination, invalid payload rejection, and selection propagation to exports and record sets.

Add explicit select-all and deselect-all controls tied to the executed query, selection-aware actions, bounded map loading, and lazy form browsing. Share the form browser with Data Views and embedded pickers while preserving loaded-row reuse.

The change adds query-wide include/exclude selection to stored-query execution and query results. Selection state is used for counts, paging, exports, recordset creation, form browsing, and maps. Backend request paths validate selection input and apply it to queries.

Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes remain within issue #7485. Backend selection filtering, explicit selection state, counts, lazy paging, exports, record-set creation, Browse in Forms, maps, split views, deletion updates, and related tests support the requested selection model, performance, or downstream operations. No unrelated change is demonstrated.
Full details: Automatic Tests
Explanation
The PR includes substantial automatic test coverage. The diff adds 12 backend and frontend test changes with 1,056 inserted lines. Tests cover selection parsing and filtering, query execution, exports, record-set creation, select-all/deselect-all behavior, lazy paging, stale results, and disabled actions.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #7485 requires an always-visible Invert Selection control in addition to Select All and Deselect All. The reviewed changes implement explicit include/exclude selection, Select All, Deselect All, counts, lazy loading, and selection-aware downstream actions. The reported selection API has no invert operation, and the results controls and tests do not provide or verify Invert Selection. The other linked requirements have supporting implementation and tests.
Resolution
Add an Invert Selection action and visible control for supported query results. Define its behavior for the include and exclude selection states, enforce the existing selection limits, update counts and downstream payloads, and add automated tests.
Full details: Testing Instructions
Explanation
The authored testing instructions do not accurately cover the full changed surface. The reviewed diff adds backend selection parsing and execution in selection.py, execution.py, and views.py, plus frontend selection, export, map, and selected-query form behavior. The instructions cover manual selection, forms, split view, deletion, Data Views reuse, and performance, but omit targeted backend checks for include/exclude, empty, duplicate, invalid, and maximum-size selections; grouped-query rejection; CSV/KML export; and record-set creation. They also omit explicit checks for map limits, selected-query form pagination, stale-request suppression, and deletion count refresh. The description names no exact test commands or relevant test files, and its automated-tests checklist remains unchecked. The diff includes test_selection.py, test_selection_execution.py, test_export_web_portal.py, and the relevant QueryBuilder tests.
Resolution
Update the testing instructions with exact commands and named test files. Include targeted tests for specifyweb/backend/stored_queries/tests/test_selection.py and test_selection_execution.py, plus the relevant QueryBuilder tests under specifyweb/frontend/js_src/lib/components/QueryBuilder/__tests__. Add expected checks for include, exclude, empty, duplicate, invalid, and maximum-size selections; grouped-query rejection; CSV/KML export; record-set creation; map limits; selected-query form pagination; Data Views reuse; deletion count refresh; and stale-request suppression. Keep the existing manual selection, count, reset, and performance steps.

Forward the selected-query selection through Web Portal exports.
A selected query currently sends no selection to the Web Portal endpoint. The backend also parses the selection but does not pass it to the Web Portal query. The resulting ZIP can therefore contain records outside the explicit selection.

Minor · Reject grouped selections at record-set creation. · execution.py:766-770
specifyweb/backend/stored_queries/execution.py:766-770 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Reject grouped selections at record-set creation.
The UI disables selection for distinct and series queries, but /stored_query/make_recordset/ only parses the selection. A caller can submit a grouped fromquery with selection. recordset() omits the grouping flags, so build_query() skips its grouped-selection rejection and inserts IDs from an ungrouped query. Reject this combination while preserving the existing base-record behavior.

⚠️Unverified finding
Verification ran but could not confirm this finding. It is shown for review, not as a verified issue.
Check recordset creation permission only in the target collection.
If fromquery.collectionid selects another collection, make_recordset still checks create permission on request.specify_collection before it reaches these target-collection checks. A user who can create a recordset in the query collection but not the request collection cannot complete this new cross-collection path. Remove the earlier create checks and retain the checks against collection. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Do not expose a no-op merge control for exclude selections.
After Select All, the selection uses mode: 'exclude', so this branch passes an empty set to RecordMergingLink. That component renders a Merge records button with no click handler when fewer than two IDs are supplied, so the visible control cannot open the merge dialog. (github.com)
Hide or disable this control for exclude selections, or implement a query-backed merge path.
