This PR was opened by the Changesets release GitHub action. When you're ready to do a release, you can merge this and the packages will be published to npm automatically. If you're not ready to do a release yet, that's fine, whenever you add more changesets to main, this PR will be updated.

nostream@3.13.0

Minor Changes

  • #1053 e37b284 Thanks @Ferryx349! - feat(peering): rate-limit on-demand requests from authenticated peers

Authenticated peers can request events outside their standing feed with a
normal REQ, COUNT, or ad-hoc NEG-OPEN session. Those requests continue to
use peer subscription and NIP-77 limits instead of client limits, and are now
bounded per peer pubkey by limits.peer.request.rateLimits (default 300
requests/minute across REQ, COUNT, and NEG-OPEN).

Refused REQ/COUNT calls receive CLOSED with a rate-limited: reason and
retry hint; refused NEG-OPEN sessions receive NEG-ERR. The limiter fails
closed when its store is unavailable, and unidentified clients are unaffected.
Per-peer request/event accounting and admin-console visibility are left to the
    dedicated admin-console follow-up.

Patch Changes

  • #1058 ba8691a Thanks @avantikonde! - fix(cli): reject placeholder secret inherited from env or prompt in setup (#1018)

Setup now rejects the default placeholder secret (change_me_to_something_long_and_random) when read from inherited environment variables or interactive prompt input, and validates the resolved secret before persisting to .env. If a placeholder is detected, setup automatically generates a fresh cryptographically secure 64-byte random hex secret.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Authenticated peers’ on-demand requests are limited to 300 per minute by default. Excess requests receive protocol-specific errors; unidentified clients are unaffected.
  • Bug Fixes
    • Setup rejects the default placeholder secret and validates secrets before saving. When a placeholder is detected, setup generates a secure replacement.

Possibly related issues

  • cameri/nostream#931: The changelog documents per-peer limits for on-demand requests, which are part of the issue’s peering proposal.
  • cameri/nostream#936: The changelog documents request rate caps for authenticated peers; the issue also asks for response-size caps and accounting, which are not described here.
  • cameri/nostream#1018: The changelog describes rejecting placeholder secrets from environment or prompt input, validating the resolved secret, and generating a random secret.

Possibly related PRs

  • cameri/nostream#1053: The 3.13.0 changelog documents the peer request rate limiting introduced by this PR.
  • cameri/nostream#1034: This PR adds the peer limit contract used by the on-demand request limits documented in the release.

Before / after behavior

It also notes that accounting and admin-console visibility are deferred.
  • observed — Modified behavior in package.json: The package version changes from 3.12.1 to 3.13.0.
  • observed — Modified behavior in .changeset/peering-on-demand.md: The changeset declaring a minor nostream release and describing authenticated-peer on-demand request rate limits and refusal behavior was removed.

Full details: Title check

Explanation

The title "chore: release new version 🚀" is generic and does not name the change. The PR is a Changesets release that bumps nostream from 3.12.1 to 3.13.0 and adds changelog entries for per-peer rate limiting of REQ, COUNT, and NEG-OPEN requests and for setup placeholder-secret handling. The title does mention a release, so it is not unrelated, but it does not identify the primary change, and it uses a vague, non-descriptive phrase.

Resolution

Rename the title to name the primary change in the release. For example: "chore: release nostream 3.13.0" names the version, and a title that names the per-peer rate limiting would describe the main content. Remove the emoji.

A rabbit reads the release notes by moonlight,
And taps the version forward one small hop.
Peer requests find their limits written clearly,
A safer secret gets a fresh new start.
The changesets tuck quietly away,
While the rabbit celebrates 3.13 today.

nostream@3.13.0: if it should be published to npm, update package.json and

a private application/tag release. Ensure the release metadata cannot imply an
