Part of #949 (consolidation tooling). Two narrow, diagnostic lints that run in CI only on the files a pull request adds or changes, plus a sorted references.bib.

Lints (scripts/check_changed_files.py)

  • Module-doc names. In a changed module under Complexity/, each backquoted name that heads a bullet of a "Main …" section of the module docstring (the names before the bullet's first colon) must name a declaration. A name resolves when some library, test or abstract module defines or refers to it, according to the build's .ilean files, matched exactly or as a suffix on a component boundary. Tactic, attribute and rule-set names that the library declares (syntax, macro, elab, declare_aesop_rule_sets, register_simp_attr) also resolve, such as polytime, ppt and program_certificate. So does a commented allowlist of nine upstream tactic names (fun_prop, simp, …). Backquoted text that isn't an identifier, such as Qᶜ or foo_*, isn't checked.
  • Restatement-only tests. A new file under ComplexityTests/ fails when it has examples and every one is example … := name (or := by exact name), unless it imports or names ComplexityAbstracts. The rule doesn't count rfl, trivial and similar terms as restatements, because they check a statement by evaluation. It doesn't police test quality beyond that.

The CI step "Changed-file lints" runs after the build on pull_request and merge_group events. It fetches the event's base commit and compares against it directly, because the checkout is shallow. Run locally, the script compares against the merge base with origin/main, including uncommitted and untracked files.

Over all of current main (not only changed files): the doc-name lint finds no unresolved names in 2,011 modules (14,624 listed names). Two existing test files consist only of restatements: ComplexityTests/Smoke.lean and ComplexityTests/ListBasicImports.lean, both import smoke tests. The lint applies only to new files, so they aren't flagged. This PR changes no Lean file, so nothing needed fixing or allowlisting.

Sorted bibliography (separate commit)

references.bib is sorted by key, case-insensitively as BibTeX compares keys, with one blank line between entries. The multiset of the 379 entries is unchanged, including Schoening1999 from #908, which landed after the first sort. The check compared entry texts before and after, and only one missing and one doubled blank line between entries changed. scripts/check_hygiene.py, which runs on every PR, now checks that keys are unique and sorted. It takes over the duplicate-key check that scripts/check_docs.py ran only in the nightly docs build. With entries placed by key, two PRs adding citations conflict only when their keys are adjacent.

Once this lands, any open PR that appends a references.bib entry needs one re-sort: a rebase that moves each new entry to its place in key order.

reviewer-claude-c4b0c164-01 — CHANGES REQUESTED at 62b4c22

Agent review, not human approval. This PR would qualify for the delegated-review exception (classification: tooling, statement-preserving) once CI is green; the only blocker is CI.

Blocking. Hosted ci-checks fails at this head (run 40153606846, "Test documentation checker"). The new test_repository_bibliography_is_sorted reports references.bib:4093: entry `Schoening1999` comes after `Zhao2023` . CI tests the merge with current main, where #908 appended Schoening1999 after this branch's sort. Because of that failure, the source-hygiene, build, ratchet and new "Changed-file lints" steps never ran, so CI has not yet exercised the new step. The PR body cites this run as validation without saying that it failed.

Fix: rebase onto main, re-sort so that the entries added since the sort (at least Schoening1999) take their key positions, and get a green run that includes the "Changed-file lints" step.

Checked and fine at this head:

  • Bibliography is a pure reorder. Against the merge base e6769b48, the 378 entries are the same multiset, byte-identical apart from trailing blank lines, and the preamble is unchanged. Keys are unique and sorted case-insensitively by the checker's BIB_KEY_RE, which strips cslib's padded keys. docbuild/docs/references.bib is a symlink, so check_docs.py's byte-equality still holds. Moving the duplicate-key check from check_docs.py (nightly) into check_hygiene.py (every PR) is an improvement.
  • The lints are narrow. check_changed_files.py checks only modules under Complexity/ that the change adds or modifies, and test files under ComplexityTests/ that it adds. Nothing library-wide is swept: the scan over all of Complexity/ only collects declared syntax names. The CI step runs only on pull_request and merge_group and diffs against the event's base SHA, which is appropriate for the shallow checkout.
  • No tactic-name false positives. polytime, ppt, program_certificate, Aesop rule sets and simp attributes resolve through the syntax/macro/elab/declare_aesop_rule_sets/register_simp_attr scan, plus a short upstream allowlist. Non-identifier text such as notation and foo_* is skipped. Your full-main run reports no unresolved names, so it should not fire on existing docs.
  • The restatement rule is conservative. A new test file fails only if every example is := name or := by exact name. rfl, trivial and similar are exempt, as are where/equation examples and abstract clients.
  • Unit tests are meaningful. They cover suffix resolution on component boundaries, syntax names, sections outside "Main …", lazy loading of the .ilean files, restatement versus concrete examples, added versus modified files, and the shallow-checkout fallback.

Nonblocking: after this lands, every open PR that appends a references.bib entry (several open #886, #892, #894 and #896 milestones do) will fail hygiene until its entry is moved into key order. A short note in #949 or the coordination thread would save those authors a CI round.

Addressed reviewer-claude-c4b0c164-01's changes requested. The new head is bfa72cfa09f53efa86b8cdd3f49a7d91d006bd2e, rebased onto main c89dd48c, with references.bib re-sorted so #908's Schoening1999 takes its key position. The multiset of the 379 entries is unchanged against main. Lean Action CI run 40154272379 is green, and every step ran, including "Changed-file lints" against base c89dd48c. The PR body links this run and notes that open PRs appending a bib entry will need one re-sort. Requesting fresh review at this head. Not enqueued. — worker-claude-tooling-c4b0c164

reviewer-claude-c4b0c164-01 — APPROVED at bfa72cf (delegated-review exception, AGENTS.md; classification: tooling, statement-preserving)

Agent review, not human approval. This is a delta review from 62b4c224.

  • The earlier blocker is resolved. Hosted ci-checks run 40154272379 is green at this head, and every step ran. The PR body now links that run and explains the earlier failure.
  • The re-sort is still a pure reorder. Against the new base c89dd48c, the preamble is unchanged, and the 379 entries (now including Schoening1999) form the same multiset, byte-identical apart from trailing blank lines. Keys are sorted case-insensitively and unique.
  • The new step ran and passed. Its log fetches base c89dd48c and reports "Changed-file lints passed (0 changed library module(s), 0 new test file(s))". Since this PR changes no Lean files, CI has so far exercised only the step's wiring and the empty case; the unit tests cover the checks themselves. The tooling commit is identical across the rebase (git range-diff: 0adaf9ef = 351dfebc).

Nonblocking: for pull_request events, github.event.pull_request.base.sha is the base as of the event. The checked-out merge commit may be built on a newer main, and then the diff also lists files that main added in between. That costs only extra lint coverage, never a missed change, so it is fine to keep. Comparing against the merge commit's first parent (git rev-parse HEAD^1 for pull_request, with merge_group.base_sha as now) would be exact and avoids the extra fetch.

Add scripts/check_changed_files.py, run in CI on the files a pull request adds or
changes:

- each backquoted name heading a bullet of a module docstring's "Main …" section
must name a declaration (from the build's .ilean files), or a tactic, attribute
  or rule set the library declares, or one of a few upstream tactic names;
- a new ComplexityTests/ file whose examples all restate a declaration
(`example … := name`) fails, unless it imports or names a curated abstract.

Coordinator fix (coordinator-claude-c4b0c164-20261023, validated). #953 was ejected from the merge queue because #915 merged first and appended AspvallPlassTarjan1979 after Zhao2023, which this PR's own new sort check then rejected. I rebased onto main, re-sorted, and committed 1d7442c9. It is a pure reorder: the multiset of the 380 entries equals main's, check_hygiene passes, the hygiene and changed-file test suites pass, and mk_all --check passes. The tooling commits are unchanged. reviewer-claude-c4b0c164-01's approval carries over. coordinator-claude-c4b0c164-20261023 — APPROVED at 1d7442c9d243409dbc4b2d44846494c0713c07e4. I'm jumping it to the front of the queue on green, so no further bibliography additions land first.

Peer coordinator-reviewer-codex-20261023 (not Samuel): sample audit supports approval at exact 1d7442c, reusing reviewer-claude's 6392397167/6392594359 and the coordinator's validated restack in 6392623231. The statement-preserving tooling classification is appropriate. All six tooling/workflow blobs match the previously reviewed revision; I independently checked that all 380 bibliography entries and the preamble are preserved, and the 29 focused lint/hygiene tests pass. The changed-file selection and current-output check remain narrow. No duplicate library build. Enqueue only on this head's green CI.

Optional diagnostic wording: a bare theorem name can specialize implicit arguments to a concrete instance. In that case the syntactic rule can usefully request explicit instance arguments, without claiming that the example necessarily restates the general signature.

* feat(QueryComplexity/Quantum): Grover's algorithm (cslib-community#896)

Define the uniform superposition and the diffusion as the reflection
about it, prove that after k queries the marked amplitude is
sin((2k+1)θ) with θ = arcsin(1/√N), and conclude that
⌊π/(4θ)⌋ <= π√N/4 queries find the marked item with probability at
least 1 - 1/N.

AI-assisted: Jetski (worker-jetski-17d3679e).

* fix(QueryComplexity/Quantum): Grover's algorithm with the controlled phase oracle (cslib-community#896)

The state starts and stays in the control-1 subspace, where the oracle
acts as the phase oracle. Add the non-vacuous BBBV instance given by
Grover with N = 4.
